oil change intervals

I just switched to AMSOIL 10 W 40 in my vaquero. I have always been particular over the decades in changing my oil in all my bikes every 3000 miles, irrespective of the type of oil i run. For those that run AMSOIL in your 1700, how often do you change the oil?

If its dino oil I'd still change it every 3000 miles.

Ive read where some guys change their synthetic oil once a season regardless of mileage. What does Amsoil recommend for their product? I'd probably go as high as 10k if I used synthetic oil.

Here is a link to their website where (if i'm reading it correctly) they recommend under normal conditions changing every 25K or once a year. That just seems like a long time to go.

That chart is kind of confusing it appears to me that the 25K is for cars and light trucks not really motorcycles.

I use Mobil 1, 10W40 synthetic and change every 3,000, at 3000 miles I can tell it's starting to shift just a little hard.
What's hard on MC oil is the constant compression of the oil by the gears in the transmission. This is called shearing in the oil world lingo.....

I use Rotella T-6 fill synthetic and change mine every 3,000 to 5,000 whenever the mood strikes.

Looking at the chart for motorcycles, 2X the OEM interval not to exceed 15,000 miles.

I run amsoil and generally do 1 change a year as I generally don't get much over 8,000 miles a year on.

I've been running AMSOIL in my 2000 Honda VFR for years. Oil change intervals in the service manual are 8,000 miles. I have just over 62,000 miles on it and have never had a problem.

I plan on using it in my 1700 Nomad when it's due for it's next oil change.

AMSOIL is $12/quart. Filter is $16. Using the amounts for non-synthetic Hondaline oil, it averages out to about the same $$$. I just don't have to change it every 3 months. I ride approximately 16,000 miles a year.

I have used full synthetic since day 1. Changing oil every 5K.

If you don't do much riding in a season and just go by mileage for oil changes, there is another factor that comes into play for a bike or any 4 cycle engine that gets stored through the winter. Well actually 2 factors.The blow by products of combustion are acidic and so based on that even if you are not due for an oil change it is a good idea to change the oil when you store the bike. The other consideration is if the bike was stored where it was subject to rapid changes in temperature, you will have some moisture in your oil from condensation.

Thats why I like to change my oil every 3000 miles, with the temp swings, I get condensation, and like to get the moisture out every oil change.
