Marbling the 1600-part 2

I did the trick and drove about a 100 miles. results: does reduce popping maybe 50%. Also mpg went down from 30 city to 25.:-( Moral of the story: Do it if you can afford more gas or live with the popping. I removed the marble this morning. Popping not all that bad. Other option buy power commander/BAK. :-)

I wouldn't think the marble would have anything to do with mpg ? I have never gotten as bad as 30. The worst i have ever got was 33 but that is because i was trying diff. settings on the cobra processer. That was with 2up riding. I have done the marble and i get no poping. I avg. probally 38 with 2up & 40 solo riding to work.

Just wondering. You said "marble". Did you plug both hoses using 2 marbles or just one? I haven't tried in on my 1600 (no intake or exhaust mods yet), but it worked great on my old 1500 FI Classic with no reduction in MPG.

I've heard there are caps that plug the hole nicely. Not sure where you would get them but...

Thats probally true ,the marble fits tight & it is right above the valve so i don't think it can come out anyway.

I marbled the right side only the way gadgets suggests. I ride in a big city so lots of lights so 30 is best in town, get 40+ hwy with 1-2 up too. It's supposed to reduce popping not totally get rid of it and i would say thats correct in my case. My bike is stock except V&H bagger pipes which had a slight reduction in mpg when added.

Ooops, I had a brain cramp. You're right, it only takes 1 marble.

I put a 1/2 copper pipe end cap (instead of a marble) in the hose. Put a 9"x2" K&N filter on the left side only after blocking the backplate intake hole. Installed Kuryakyn TFI, and V&H Baggers. I get 35-36 max (at 65+ mph) on the highway and 30-31 around town. I had bad pinging until the TFI, now I still get a little pinging on very hot days, but if I set the TFI any richer to eliminate pinging my mileage really goes down.
