I passed up several deals on 1600's to find another 1500 Nomad. The lack of accessories still haunts my riding bud who purchased an '06 Nomad. Wonder why Ma Kaw thought it necessary to redesign the 1600 so the 1500 accessories, with *very* few exceptions, would not fit? And right now, I don't see a lot of aftermarket accessory providers stepping up to the plate to fill that void.

I'm keeping my 1500 and have a friend who is on the brink of buying his second 1500.

...and you won't, either. All the accessories available for the 1600 are on the market now. It's an obsolete platform, so nobody is designing new accessories for it.

Of course, I don't see many accessories available for the 1700's, either.

I have not had any trouble finding stuff for my 1600. The only thing left on my want list is a wompus rack and an HD trunk but that is a matter of $$$$, not availability. Ride the bike that makes YOU happy!

Just out of curiosity, what is available for the 1500 Nomads that is not available for the 1600's.

A lot of stuff, chrome fender rails, chrome forks, fuel tanks, etc. I have a catalog of accessories that used to be available for the Vulcan series. The 1600 list doesn't have 1/2 of what the 1500's had.

MAS Tequila... I'd like to here more about this engine swap. I've got 51,000 on my 03 Nomad, so I bought a 98 Valkyrie Tourer with 18,000 miles. The verdict is still out which one I like best (pro's and con's to each), Although my Nomad runs great, maybe an engine swap in the future would be the way to go, and keep the Nomad.

I ride with and have ridden a couple of 1600's. I certainly don't notice a power difference between the two motors. I think the 15's seat is more comfortable. I get just as good if not better mileage than thte 16's. I think the 16's have some nice extra styling touches, and if I ever buy another Nomad I wouldn't shy away from the 16's, but I have no desire to spend money to get another 100 cc's. I'll keep my 15. I think the 15's had better colors too.

It's a 5mm difference in stroke. Cams are probably the same, so there isn't a whole lot to be gained. The difference is less than 100ccs. The bikes on the other hand are a little different. The 1600 has a longer wheelbase and is about 30 lbs heavier. If you are looking for stonk, ride the Valkyrie.

ndbigfish, the tank on the 1600's is real easy to take off. After the first time its a breeze.
