I followed the instructions from the service manual pages 66-68.

The bike is running now in the garage, I'll let it idle for 15 minutes, replenish the level if any is lost, then start counting to see if im still losing fluid. If I am... it'll be time for the leak test as per Dave's suggestion. Those UV lights arent cheap...

Might be a head slapper, when I drained the rad the drain bolt wasn't very tight. Maybe it was dripping when I rode?

I dont understand why the 1600 only has a bleed nipple on the pump, surely any air in the system is going to rise to the highest point.

The 1600s does not have the bleeder on the thermostat housing. If you use that cap on a 1500, you will have to cut one of the ears off the cap. I change my coolant every 2 years, and I haven't ever bleed the system. If you pour the coolant in very slowly, all the air will get pushed out as you fill it.
eg.......... was it wet around the drain plug?

It's not likely that he will ever have to pay up on that Mick considering the distance, but I can collect for you since I'm closer.

Glade to hear it seems to be ok now, persistence pays off.

Actually I was just thinking I could drink the beer he was gonna buy you. Can you send JD through the mail? Probably end up with a soggy box full of bits of glass.

By the way, I think the coolant in the rad was 10 years old, it stunk like dead fish!
