Another rider dead

Looks like the driver of the BMW that violated his right-of-way will be charged with manslaughter...

Scottsdale woman could face manslaughter in fatal motorcycle crash

by Brennan Smith - Nov. 29, 2010 10:44 AM
The Arizona Republic

A driver involved in the death of a motorcyclist Sunday night in Scottsdale is expected to be charged with manslaughter.

About 5:30 p.m., Sharolyn Medina, 45, of Scottsdale was turning left from eastbound Shea Boulevard to northbound 124th Street when the motorcyclist, Eric Ziemba, 24, of Scottsdale, struck her BMW as he traveled west, police said.

Ziemba, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Scottsdale police spokesman David Pubins said.

Police said alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash and that Medina reportedly was driving under the influence.

Shea Boulevard was partially closed between 120th and 130th streets until midnight, Pubins said.

FYI, she went to prison. Here's a link to see sentence and potential parole dates.

As you see from the link information, she was not in prison until January of 2013. I guess the trial dragged out for a long time, but this thread may still have followers.

Wow, that was a long time ago. I had never heard what happened to the driver. Thanks for the update.

Folks... Statistic have shown officers are only able to stop one in about 3300 drunks at any time. There are far more drunks on the road than America has officers on the road. Yes, drunks are out 24/7. I have been fighting DUI drivers/events since 1995. Prior to making sergeant I was assigned to our enforcement/traffic unit. My best night was 11 when working with my partner. I averaged 2-3 per shift.... I've had two many friends and relatives killed by drunks to give any leeway. I find someone under the influence they go to jail. Simple... This includes meds, drugs, or alcohol. It gets old scraping body parts of innocents off of the pavement due to an intoxicated driver. I have handled things I hope no one will ever have to see themselves. Death by stupidity is so senseless!

I'd be interested to see the outcome of this case. Each state has different laws concerning vehicular homicide. In Kansas! it's a misdemeanor rather than felony.... I'll continue to do my part to try and keep the roads safe...

As far as riding at night... I'm fine with it during spring, summer, and fall. Once the deer start moving, I park it. Also... Most motor officers work from sun up to dusk. Too dangerous during the dark of night!

I'm sure she will have plenty of time to think about she did while she's in prison.
