New paint

I'll soon be getting my Nomad back home from the shop, after my accident. Along with the new parts, it had to have some painting done to her. With winter pretty much here on the "wet coast" I would normally be putting on a good coat or two of polish/wax on the bike. Chrome incl. while it sat in the {heated} garage. Does anyone know if there are any rules to abide by when it comes to new paint? I mean,.....it's OK to polish? not OK? certain kind of polish ??? Should I leave the paint alone till spring?
What say you my friends?

New paint

Not sure but I've heard that polish is not recommended for new paint. Wax is ok. Polish has some grit in it...or something like that

New paint

I'd let it sit until spring to cure real good.

New paint

There are not many automotive paints today that need a curing time before waxing if the proper hardening additives and or baking have been used. If it is base coat / clear coat, which it should be, it will be fine.

New paint

I'd give it a couple of weeks and it should be fine to use a good wax. Even though it will be parked in the garage it is still best to have a good coat of wax on it.

I'll check with the guy who did the work.

New paint

I called the guy who did mine and he said there should be no issues if I was to put some polish/wax on the new paint. He suggested a good Carnuba wax like "Mothers". I'll probably leave it alone till spring and just spritz it with some Windex and keep it clean and covered.

Is windex ok to use? Some of the window cleaners contain ammonia. Not sure if that could harm the paint.

New paint

a fair question. I have used it to remove bugs from both paint and the windscreen. I haven't had any issues before but I might ask about it's use.

New paint

Wait at least 2 weeks and if you decide to put it off longer, just use some Pledge furniture wax to make it look right.

Thanks. It's been about 2-3 weeks since it was done. I should be getting the bike back home the next decent day we have.

Rick,

take my advice and have the 3M protection film installed in all the usual places. It's well worth the price. I've noticed no rock chips anywhere since I've put it on.

+1 That is one thing I wish I would have done when I repainted mine. Put some sort of protection film on the front of the bags, tank, fender, etc.

After paying or working hard on paint, the last think you want to see is a rock chip!
