Hi from Connecticut

Morning everyone,

Wanted to say hi and ask a few questions:

I'm looking at a 2005 1600 nomad with 10,000 miles on her stock except V/H pipes dealer serviced. I'm also looking at a 2006 with 20,000 with V/H pipes and a hyper charger I can get them for about the same price. I'm also looking at a 2006 1600 classic with 10,000 miles for a 1,000 less. I would have to replace the passenger pegs with boards on the classic. The classic has engine guards and hi-way pegs. Money is tight which is why I'm considering the classic. I've read a whole bunch of threads on the differences between them and researched them to death.

I found the height of the nomads are 58"high vs the classic of 44" high yet there is only about 1" difference in seat height. Why would that be?

I also see nomads are easier in slow maneuvers than the classic. The rake is the same 32 degrees and the trail is more on the nomad than the classic. Wouldnt you expect the longer the trail the harder to turn or am I wrong on that.

between the 2005 and 2006 nomad's is there any difference in model years as far as issues with the 2005 being the first year of the 1600 nomad?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated. I hope to make the purchase this week.

Thanks

Darn forgot to ask one more question

With the 2006 with the hypercharger and V/H pipes would they need to of installed an EFI module? I read that hypercharger sticks out a lot and can block your foot from reaching the brake and boards can that be replaced with another and could the stock one be put back on? Ok I think that's all the questions lol

Thanks again

Welcome from Northern Minnesota! I can't help much with your questions, I'm partial to the 2005 Nomad because I have one and haven't had any issues with it. The height difference I think would be because I don't believe the Classics came stock with a windshield. Hopefully someone else will be along soon that can answer more of your questions.

well duh I never thought to take the windshield into consideration when Kaw talks about the height of the bike. I have sat on both and for the life of me could not understand where they were getting the extra 12" from. That makes sense.

Thanks for the welcomes also

Welcome from Oklahoma. Both bikes sound good. The hyper charger can be changed out for a chucksters single plate (that's what I did). To get performance out of the 06 you do need a fuel processor. It's really what you want out of the bike. My self I would go for the 05 with less mileage. Then you can add mods as you like. Classics are nice bikes but they're not a NOMAD

I'm about 15 minutes east of Hartford. I stay away from the Boston, Worchester just to much traffic for my liking. The western part of Mass has some great roads.Last year we rode Rt from Deerfield over to North Adams along rt. 2 then up MT. Greylock and down and over to Benington and back along Rt. 9. Nothing like the fall time in New England and those covered bridges in VT. This past August I did a few days in Conway NH and did the Mt. Washington auto road .

Thanks for the suggestions Framer. I booked marked chucksters site, doesn't seem to expensive. The 2006 has all the mods and I thought you needed a processor if you changed both the pipes and the air intake is that not right? I don't think they know as they get all the work done by the dealer. I'll have to ask that though.

It might already have a processor. It should be in the left side cover if not a TFI is only about $180 or so. Good luck

You must be a Vanilla Bean regular.

I don't ride much in the Boston area. I did a couple of rides in the Greenfield area last year. Did a lot of RI, CT, and NH this year with some Cape Cod thrown in. I'm heading to NH on Sunday for 400 - 500 mile round trip day ride.

Conway is nice but to busy. I ride the opposite end on Rt. 112 when I get up there.

I did not realize how crowded conway was. I had never been up there but heard so much about the kangamangus byway I wanted to ride it. The traffic was insane in conway, north conway. The kangamangus was fine I thought it was going to be a bit more twistie and got stuck behind a minivan on bear notch rd. which would of been fun. In general the white mountains was fun and plan on taking what ever Kaw I get back up there next year.

The bean is good fresh food and I'm sure you know on weekends it's biker heaven mostly Hardly Driven bikes. There is a place up along 169 not far from Mass called Sweet Evalina's a road side joint that I like better. The bean caters to the rich kids in those private schools but the roads in woodstock and north eastern CT are great riding roads.
