Very excited to be a part.
Sold my 1999 Road King and bought a used 2005 1600 Nomad 13 months and 10,000 miles ago, and have added a few extras:
V&H Baggers - needed
9"X2" K&N (left side only) - needed
Techlusion TFI - Needed
Passenger Floorboard Relocation - wife wanted
Custom passenger Backrest - wife needed
Windshield Bag with cup/bottle holder - wanted
Highway Pegs - needed
Dunlop Elite III Rear 180/70-16 Rear
But the best money spent was for a Russells "Day Long" saddle. Since I'm a big boy and did the ride-in one-day service that baby was $771 OTD. The trip home from Russell's (MT Shasta, CA) was over 250 miles, the next weekend my wife and I did over 800 and two weeks later I did a 4 day camping trip to Crater Laker, OR at just over 1000 miles. My butt never got sore...not even once.

So far, so good. I'm very satisfied with the Nomad.
It doesn't handle as well as the RK and that Nomad motor is noisy! Still, it's an awesome bike.

One question. If I take my hands off the handlebar at around 40mph the bars start to really shake. What's up with that?

Hmm, I'll have to check it out tonight around 40 MPH.

I originally thought it was because I put 2" spacers under my risers to lift my handlebars, but I've heard others have th esame problem. I am close to a front tire change...maybe that will help.

First off welcome to the forum glad you made it here.. Hmmm I let got of my bars all the time with no shaking at any speed hmmm thats odd... wow i'm surpried you said it doesnt handle as well as the RK because I have ridin a few RK's and they felt sluggish compared to the nomad. That just goes to show ya different strokes for different folks. LOLOLOL take care and enjoy...

My 05 with 5K miles does the same with the shake. Not bad, just a little unsetteling. I have also found the Nomad to like a little more tire air than my other bikes. I run 40 in the front and 44 in the rear tire. The 05 frame is re-designed and is a little improved from earlier designs; I think it is in the neck.
And the motor does tic a little. Its not too bad and with miles is gets better. We may be going to synthetic oil soon too.
How do I like the Nomad? love it. Our last tourer was a H-D Electra Glide Classic; my wife loves the Nomad more!

Welcome aboard fellow Nomad rider.... I too have a 05 Nomad and cannot yet say that I have had the handle bar shake your describing. My bike is a low mile bike as I just bought it from the original owner about 2 1/2 to 3 months ago. When I got it the bike only 72 miles on it and currently I am up to 1186 miles. So my bike is likely fairly tight yet and still running on realitively new rubber. This board has been a lot of fun for me and there is certainly a lot of characters on here to get to know. welcome you will have a lot of fun here, there are a great group of riders here. the shake your having I have had on my 03, I think its tire pressure make sure you have at least 40lbs of air in the front. once I did this mine went away. welcome to the site enjoy and ride safe

Welcome Bob, but way on earth would you take your hands off the bars? thats as bad as spilling your beer! The noisy motor sound goes away once you put loud pipes on the bike.

My wife and I both like the Nomad better than the 99 Roadking. It gives us much more room on the seat and handles better on those nice big sweepers at 55+ MPH. The RK only handled better in sharp turns and around town. They're about the same powerwise, but The nomad would have a power advantage over a stock RK.
I'm sold!
