Hi from Massachusetts George. Is it safe to assume you are a brand new rider too, this will be your first bike? My impression is most of us started on something a little smaller but there's no rules. It's just that the likelihood of dropping, scratching, denting are way higher when you're first getting used to the weight and physics of a heavy bike. I've only been riding a couple years myself so that learning curve is still fresh in my mind. I started on something not small but a little lighter than a Nomad...man I was terrified in the beginning. Quite fun though that terror - adrenalin ROCKS!

But putting that aside, my wife started on a Honda 750 Shadow. Light weight and fairly easy to control.
What ever you choose you would be wise to take a riding safety course.

I know I would be ashamed.

One must possess affable social standards in order to know shame. Them two obviously ain't got none.

If I may go so far as to speak for the entire membership sir, I am ashamed for 'em.

Pardon the unmitigated crass comments of this pair of inconsiderate vulgar associates.

That aside, Welcome To The Forum. Get a bike and come to the rallies. Our Rallies KICK SUPER ASS! I mean a Fabulous Kim Kardashian size ass!

I prefer the Nomad. Every time I wreck one I go find another un.

Oh, another thing. Jack Daniels Honey is GOOD, but mix it with Egg Nogg and you gotta take your boots off so you can wiggle your toes while you drinking it.

Welcome from another "Houstonian". I actually live in Magnolia, but close enough. A little shameless promotion here. I have a Nomad for sale ( see 2007 Nomad/loaded). It's close to home. One thing, if you are a new rider, then I wouldn't recommend this bike. Heavy, easy to manage for an experienced rider, but you'll swear off riding for ever if you try to start with anything larger than say a Sabre 1100. Let me know if you have any questions, I've bought and sold a few bikes. Can let you know if what you are considering is good shape and good value.

Welcome from Alvin, TX. My first bike was a BSA (light bike) since then I've owned a Suzuki, Harley and a Vulcan Nomad 1700, my current bike.

I would recommend starting with a used bike in the 650-1100cc range. It will be light enough to maneuver and being used you won't mind to much when you drop and scratch it. A used bike will also cost less making it financially easier to move up to a new cruiser/bagger when your ready.

When you get your bike come and join us on one of our full moon rides. We do one a month.

Welcome again and when search for your bike don't let any of the salespeople take the joy out of the experience.
