Just keep in mind 30 feet is still too long, they will be on both sides of the road. School buses for example, I have seen them there plenty of times. But still good news.

I'm sure there will still be the odd truck finding their way on it if they are just following their GPS. Once on it I am sure most of the truckers wish they weren't on it.

This is indeed good news. I am just in the preliminary planning stages of a 4 bike tour down to the Tail and Parkways in August of 2016.
We are leaving from central Manitoba Canada and any tips or advice that any of you can pass on or over would be appreciated.

Try and hit the Dragon on a weekday fairly early in the morning. Less traffic and cops. And avoid Saturday afternoon at all costs.

Besides the Dragon and the Parkway try and hit 28 south from the end of the dragon to Highland NC, or at least Franklin and eat lunch or dinner at the Caff'e Rel in Franklin. Reasonably priced five star French restaurant in a gas station. Cash only, you must get a BOWL of the Blue Crab Bisque. 28 between Franklin and Highland is awesome scenery.

Hit the Cherohala Skyway, probably the best road down there, Dragon being second. I would suggest you just round trip the Cherohala back to the Dragon area unless you are going further south. It kind of hits a dead end as far as good roads and sights unless you head south.

Hit the Foothills Parkway the third best road down there.

Near the Parkway is Maggie Valley. Hit the Wheels of Time motorcycle museum.

The Parkway gets to be the same ol' same ol' pretty quick to me anyway. I would hit it east of Cherokee past Maggie Valley for maybe a 100 miles or so and the peel of to something else. It gets old fast, again for me anyway.

So kind of like this....Head through Knoxville into Alcoa..down the back way to the eastern end of Foothills..take that to the Dragon...then across Charohala and back, then down 28 to Franklin...then up to Cherokee and across the foothills to Maggie Valley and the museum then east on the Parkway until you run out of time and head home.

Ride the dragon like you've got some sense and you will be fine. Ride like you wanna die and you just might.

Google "Dragons Rest Cabins" for a great place to stay in Robbinsville, NC. Very quiet and relaxing, motorcycle oriented and great owners.

28 is an awesome road too . . . In fact take it south into South Carolina and stop at the Mtn Rest Cafe - in Mountain Rest, SC - Some of the best - and most economical home cookin you will find . . . Won best food of trip on our 2009 trip down there - we thought it was much better bang for our buck than the French place - which was good - but . . .
