Car tire on a 1500

Anyone know of a care tire that will fit the rear of a 1500 Nomad?

Its tough because the 1500 rim is only 3.5" wide. There is a darkside forum that may be able to help with that though. I think its posted here on another thread somewhere not to long ago. I'll check at home to see if I have it bookmarked.

I haven't found one that works on a 1500. The rim and swingarm are too narrow.

There are some some car tires for skinny rims that are 16", but they are like antique car tires and not modern belted radials.

There used to be some Michelin radials that were for 1960's Jaguars, and would go on a 16" Harley rim, but they were not tubeless.

Car tire on a 1500

Hey, it looks like a guy there managed to get a 205/60-16 Goodyear Eagle LS on a 1500 Nomad, because squeezing it onto the 3.5" rim made the tire actually much narrower. I'm sorta surprised that it worked, but also that a guy put a tire for a 6" wide rim on a 3.5" wide rim & has had no problem.

Now on a car, he mighta had a problem too, but the bike is so much lighter, and the way it applies forces to the tire is different too, so it's hard to say.

I might well try this myself, on my next tire, and I'd certainly do it if I was out on the road & needed a tire quick, and there were no bike tires for 100 miles around.

It's a compromise, IMO, but it's a compromise that a lot of folks have found they can live with.

If you do a lot of miles on the bike, you wont be replacing tires near as often, and a car tire is a lot cheaper also. The link I posted in my previous post should answer a lot of questions about it.

Is it also hard to find a car tire for a 2006 1600? Also, with a car tire being so flat compared to a motor cycle tire, would that not drastically change the cornering of the bike? I can tell a difference when my rear Metzler gets flat...

Achilles ATR Sport 195/55 R16
I got it at www.tires-easy.com
It is about the same height as 180/60 R16 bike tire. This is a lower profile than stock; makes the speedometer error worse; and puts the engine at a higher rpm for a given speed.

Hmmm, car tires are not made for riding on an angle... that must make for a really awkward ride in the twisties ... I think I'll stick to the real deal.
