Spare Key

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I am needing a spare key for my 2007 Nomad. Dont really want to pay dealership price, can I just buy one off e-bay or does our keys require a chip inside,,thanks.

Spare Key

Boomer, this has been covered before but no problem covering again.....go to any locksmith or key shop for KW14 blank made by Silca.
If they don't have it, they certainly can get it.
Runs 2-3.00 for the blank key.
Little cheaper than 30-40 bucks for blank from Kawasaki.

Also suggest, if possible, take the bike with you so you can try new key in "all" places. A buddy of mine had some made. Would work in ignition & saddlebags but not in stearing lock or side cover. Took minor adjustment to fix.
Might save you a trip back.

If you can't find the blank, let me know. Our local locksmiths have them.

boomer, thanks for asking this. I have been "planning on" getting a spare or two for a couple years now and just haven't.
dkdixie, thanks for the answer. it makes things a lot easier knowing what you are looking for.

I got mine off Ebay, and had it cut at the hardware store. Make sure you check it as stated above, I had to get mine recut so it worked fine.

Spare Key

Boomer, I don't really need another spare key due to having both of the originals. I called my dealer asking what they charge for cutting a spare. They told me they have the factory blanks and charge only $7 + sales tax. That would be $7.59 here. Pretty cheap IMO.

Spare Key

Speaking about getting a spare key brings to mind another question. And we might have talked about this before too,... but where do people keep them? In your wallet?, in a drawer of your dresser in the bedroom, on the bike somewhere?

“Spare key”
I duck tape the "spare key" under the foam lining of helmet...so were I go, the spare is with me.
I never leave the helmet on the bike in case you are wondering...LOL

Spare Key

Ive kept my spare at home in my file cabinet, probably not the handiest place to keep it. I think I should look into putting one on the bike where it might do some good.
Ive only ever lost one key for my bikes, and that was by dropping it down the garbage chute with my bag of garbage back when I lived in an apartment.

Spare Key

Spare keys are always kept in the pockets of my leather jacket and my gortex one. I never go riding without wearing one or the other.

I have a spare key ring with the bike key, trailer shell key, trailer hitch/tongue lock key, tourpak key and disc lock key. Normally, it's at home. When I went to Custer, I zip-tied it to some wiring by the fuse block next to the coolant recovery reservoir. It's one thing to be across town and lose a key, it's another to be 1300 miles away and lose one.
