Colorado Roads

I'll be living in Colorado for the next 3 months and would like to know what are best day rides in the state?

Not that I know any, but depending on which part of the state you'll be will depend on your day trips.

I do know that southern Colorado and the southwestern part of the state have some great roads. The road going from Durango to Ouray is great. The million dollar highway goes from Silverton to Ouray... very scenic. If you're around the Denver area, then you could go up into Winter Park... Berthoud pass is a nice drive (although I've only been through it during the winter months and it can get a bit hairy with snow on the road).

Also, Central City and Blackhawk is a neat little drive along a river. Those towns have turned into a casino mecca... at least it was the last time I was there.

If you don't mind spending a few bucks for a book, I would recommend the following, especially if you're going to be there for three months.

Jared, I'll be talking with you. There are plenty up in the area that you will be at.

The ride from Loveland to Estes Park down to Central City is a great ride. There are several canyons roads off that route. Poudre Canyon (hwy 14) north of Fort Collins is another enjoyable ride.

You may have to get ahold of Ells since he lives right in that area. Text me if you want his phone number.

I'll be living in Longmont. About 35 miles north of Denver.

I have ridden the Million Dollar Hwy a few times and love it! Unfortunately that and the Rocky Mtn NP and the interstates are about the only roads I've been on.

Some very nice ridding on CO State Hwy 14 going west.

The ride to Kimmling, CO (14 to US 40 east) is very nice

There are some Mts just south and west of Laramie, WY called the "Snowy Range" - nice ridding there - WY State Hwy 130

Just some ideas.

Ballast beat me to Pike's Peak. There's another mountain just west of Denver, forget the name right now, but it supposedly has the highest paved rode in N America.

There's a loop that goes west from Trinidad and then north up tp Walsenburg, hwy 12... That is a very nice ride. I've driven it in a car. Awesome scenery... I stayed in a little town called Cuchara on that road. There's nothing there really, a general store and a restaurant and a few houses. But it's a beautiful road to take.

Do you mean Kremmling? I've been up there, but not on a bike. We have a friend who lives there, he calls it Kremtucky because it's full of rednecks.

Estes Park over Trail Ridge road would be awesome. That'll bring you down through Winter Park and over Berthoud Pass as well.

Peak to peak highway is another good one. From Estes highways 7, 72 and 119. Then from there a short leg on I 70 to Idaho Springs then down 103 to Mt Evans if you want to extend it a bit.

Highway 285 just south of Denver over Kanosha pass then to Fairplay and Breckenridge and beyond or back if you prefer.

And yeah, Black Hawk and Central City are still casino meccas.

PM me when you get settled in. It would be good to meet and ride with ya! There's more here than you can do in 3 months...

+1 on what the 'Old Curmudgeon' said! He and I live close together and would love to show you around (right, Paul? ).

My son and his buddies also ride and we could put together something nice...
