That would happen with the older 1500s but I've never heard of anyone having one blow out on a 1700.
The only possible cause would be too much pressure in the crankcase, check if your vent is plugged and the hose for kinks.

Thanks for the reply! I checked the hose and it did get kinked accidentally when I was messing with my air box. Now I have to pull the head cover to pop the gasket back in place
