LOL what a hoot! and OH YEAH that can happen! A little 400 pound bear can rip chains open to get at food in a dumpster.

Long ago I had a black bear come to my MGB car at the time, in the Blue Ridge Pky. I got in what ever camp ground it was late that night and was sleepin' in the dirt next to the drivers door.

All I had in the way of food was a 1/2 jar of peanutbutter, for which I lost the rag top over.

The bear shook the car which woke me up and i could see the rear paws on the other side of the car. That bear un-screwed the jar and ate the contents no problem.

Bear will tear a coleman coolers to bits to get at what's inside. A tour pak is not a problem to a bear.. He don't care any about paint or chrome trim either...

Living along side the White Mnts National Forest I see smashed coolers in dumpsters any day I go there.

A 400 pound bear will shred trees for bugs. They can lift there own weight and then some more. They can tear a winnie bago to bits any time they want, going right thru the walls..

If they really want to, they can tear a cabin to bits, and sometimes they do.

We had one get in our hunting camp two years ago, it chewed up some quarts of oil and a can of orange spray paint. A couple days later the trapper said he saw a bear with orange paint all over its head.

sounds like that movie "The Great Outdoors" where that bear had a bare ass from a shotgun.

Bears are beautiful creatures but still very dangerous. I have taken lots of pictures of them in the Smoky Mountains. When they get hungry they are very dangerous.

That would be an interesting ad to read. "Some bear claw scratches, needs painted".

A good "heads up" before we leave for Yosemite. Know enough not to leave food in the saddle bags but didn't consider the left over smell of food.

Looks like the food will go in the sissy bar luggage which will follow us into the condo.
