Light bar wiring

It's recommended to wire driving lights on a separate circuit. Reasons why are described in Gadget's article:

I bought a simple relay at the auto store and followed the diagram. Since my lights already had an on/off switch, I did not run a separate switch to the handlebar as described.

I have the same lights on my Nomad. I wouldn't spend $30 for a few $ worth of wiring and a relay, though. The lights should be on a dedicated circuit from the battery, do not use existing wiring (like the accessory connections) to power them.

I'd run a wire from the running light circuit in the headlight bucket to a switch, then one from the switch to the relay. Run a separate line from the (+) battery terminal through a fuse, to the relay. Then run a wire from the relay to the (+) wire on the lamps.

The running light circuit is a good source of switched power, so there's no chance of leaving the lights on in the daytime and draining your battery.

I'd run a relay. If you ever upgrade to 55 watt bulbs, you'll need it. Also take a load off the other circuits, use the running light circuit as a trigger. You can get a relay for under $15.
