Actually pretty cheap, just of the top of my head I think my pickup is around $300 a year with collision etc. We do pay more for plates as we have a government run vehicle insurance that covers the medical portion here in Quebec.

Rhys, did you try Primmum Insurance. They specialize in motorcycle insurance here in Canada through TD Bank. I have only been riding for 3 years and have full coverage on my 2010 Nomad for just less then $900.00. Friends of mine are using Primmum and their rates are even lower because of their experience. You can google Primmum and do a free quote on line to see what your rate would be. Good luck.

I tried Primmum - 1120 per year. Riders Plus was the cheapest. Auto insurance, I pay 3000 a year for 2 vehicles, 2005 and 2007.

Rhys, it may have something to do with where we live in Canada. I am only paying $1,400.00 for two Honda cars, a 2004 and a 2010. Even with Primmum that is a couple of hundred bucks more for your bike then mine and mine is brand new. I checked Riders Plus but it is only for Ontario riders. Good luck with your search.

It is a numbers game, all about where you live and the risk in that area.

Right on Norm, this exactly.

Allstate insures mine at $785/yr. when packaged together with two cars (also have my home insured with them). Years ago, Jevco used to be dirt cheapest ticket out here.

I switched from Jevco to Open Road (primmum) this summer. I had been with Jevco for 5 years and they requoted me $1,200 for the coming year. '08 nomad, $3,000 in accessories, 47 years old, riding 5 years, location Barrie, ON. Open Road quoted me $853 for same coverage plus additional coverage for my accessories (collision incl'd). They run their policy from Feb 1st, and I started my coverage with them in June so they pro-rated the amount. Here is their website http://www.openroadprogram.com/

When I got my Nomad (moved up from a 900 Vulcan) I bought both bikes brand new, my insurance jumped from $900 to almost (ready) $1,600. I am a senior with a blemish free driving record. I did have to start over on the graduated license but I am a full M now and I have taken both my M1 & M2 with coursed and the Advanced Technical Riding skills course none of which impacted my insurance.

The insurance companies claim if you are in a club and take courses you will save on your insurance - that is the biggest joke of all. It is just getting too expensive to ride in Canada!

I pay $20.35 a month for my 2002 KW Meanstreak. My husband pays $20.60 for his 2003 Honda VTX 1800 (go figure). With bikes this old, it's hard to justify carrying collision, but we still carry it. It would be bad enough to wreck my bike and if I had to replace it completely with my own funds, that would be devastating. We're with American Family. We were previously with State Farm. State Farm had higher rates but would allow you to drop the coverage in the winter (when you weren't riding the bikes). You could "call in" and add a daily rider for any days that you wanted to ride the bike. But, here in CO, we have lots of good riding days throughout the year - so it wasn't really worth the trouble.
