Planning the ride to the National Rally

OK, it seems for most areas in the east that riding has ended, But we can at least plan and talk about it.

I was wondering who is going to the National.

Radco mentioned a while back about meeting up along the way. We could maybe use this thread to compare routes and departure dates once we have done some initial planning to see if this is possible.

At this moment my thought is to start out on 81 after crossing into the U.S. My brother did the trip from here in Montreal to Maggie Valley this summer, so I plan to pick his brains a bit and hear what others have to say.

Sorry Denis, I just figured most were aware of it. it is June 14,15, 16, 2011 in Maggie Valley, North Carolina ( About an hour from Deals Gap )

Cindy and I live about 45 min. from route 81.
CNC how long does it take you to get to 81 from your home?

TC, Montreal to 81 around the Watertown area is 3 1/2 to 4 hours according to Harley route planner. I would assume Ring and others coming from Toronto way would also pass this way.
Where abouts would you get on the 81?

I would get on at the Parish exit. It is #33 about 75 miles into the state after you cross the border.
They have a great truck stop diner there. It is callred The Grist Mill.

OK I see that on the map TC, about 215 miles from Montreal via the 401, crossing the Ivy lea bridge and down 81.
What day do you plan on arriving in Maggie valley and do you have a stop over point in mind for the trip down? I was thinking arrival on the 13th. No stop over yet planned, but anyone coming from either Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal way would already have around 200 miles under their belt before arriving where you get on.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. By the time you guys got there you would be halfway through the day. It would be non productive for me to lose half a days riding time by not starting out till near noon.
We will see how it goes as we get closer to the rally.
I want to arrive at the rally on the 13th. That is the meet and greet day. They say the 14th,15th and 16th will be full riding days.

Its still a ways off before I start giving it any serious thought. I plan on arriving on the 13th as well hopefully in the afternoon. I have a wedding to attend to on the Saturday, so I will not be able to leave until Sunday, how soon is anyones guess. I should be able to ride there in the two days though.

This is about 1700km from my place. Missing 100kms to make it enough to do an "Iron Butt" ::) ::)

Oh boy could I go some where with this lead in, but I won't. We'll keep it rated "G" for general admission.

We may get a chance to go east this summer on the bike, so my wife will save her holidays for that and I will more than likely go solo to the National.

I am in the planning stage, holidays is no problem, it is the timing, June is a busy time for us.
It would be gr8 to meet Kawariders from all over.
CNC...as for hotel, have you booked yet?
I also will be solo....Sly, looks like you will be on a diet buddy!

All year round is a busy time for me, Guy just make time and do it.
Not yet on the hotel booking, but soon. I'm also looking at alternate routes other than driving the 401 and straight down 81.
