Motorcyclist killed on the dragon

The Tail of the Dragon has taken another life. Here is the article on it. Please say a prayer for the family.

Motorcyclist killed on the dragon

Sad news indeed. Lately there have been many mature riders crashing, especially down here. My condolences and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Motorcyclist killed on the dragon

It is really sad to hear of a death on the Dragon. I feel some of these people just aren't experienced enough to be riding the Dragon. Or they feel they are better than they actually are.

Godspeed.

I have never ridden the dragon. But 11 miles and 300+ curves, a riders concentration is put to the test. No matter how fast a curvy road is ridden, a loss of concentration can be hazardous. I wonder how many non-fatal accidents occur there?

That is really too bad. He was thrown 57 feet from the bike, so I would assume he was moving rather fast.

KenBob, you are correct about the concentration level. No sightseeing on that road. Also important is knowing your own skill level. Most riders think they are more talented than they truly are! I've ridden the Dragon literally hundreds of times and have not lost my fear of it yet....never will.

I like riding it in the fall or early spring; the leaves are almost gone or just coming in and you can see through the corners, as oppossed to a lush landscape. There's a hint!!

I have 40+ years of experience of ridding MCs but I doubt that I have the skill to ride the Dragon in an aggressive way. I am from Maryville, TN and have been on the Dragon before it was called such - slow and easy each time. Such ridding now would make me a safety hazard with all the speed boys wizen by!!
