Today's ride

Went out on a 200+ mile ride today with the Mrs. Started with some of our favorite local roads then ventured over toward the center of the state (through Bevilles Corner, Webster and Center Hill) and our version of a mountain, Sugarloaf Mountain. It is the highest point in the sate, near Mount Verde, FL. The road looks down on Lake Apopka to the east and is a wonderful view. From there we went through Winter Garden then up through Apopka, then over to Umatilla and some back roads back to Crystal River.

We got in some twisties and some elevation changes during the ride. It was a lovely 68-72 during the ride and nice to get out for a long ride.

For all of my snowbound friends, I ride for you, ;). If I can ever figure out how to use Google maps to get the route, I will post it here.

How much of an elevation change can there be in Florida? The highest point is 345 feet. I'm sure there's buildings in Miami and Orlando taller than that.

At least you were able to ride today. Been raining here off and on.

I've never been to Florida, but it looks as flat as a pool table.

Well, it is flat for the most part but there are some hills, just gotta find 'em. I've only been to the Phoenix airport so my impression of AZ is rocks and heat, lol.

Hey, it was a beautiful view regardless of whether it was the highest point or a mountain. And if anyone wants to come ride the route to Sugarloaf, let me know and we will go.

That sounds good, but according to Mapquest, the Estimated Time is 3 hours and the Estimated Distance is 161.49 miles just for me to get to Crystal River.

After that, I'm not sure how much I'd feel like riding even more!

What part of the state are you in? 161 miles...just getting warmed up. We rode down to Ft. Meyers in early January and back on a Saturday. Fun times!

Long vacation, lol. A normal Saturday length with the group I usually try to ride with is 300+. We do some cool rides.

Nothing like a peaceful getaway with the Mrs. We do that often just to get a vacation from the grandkids. Sad but it's true.
