Modular Helmet

Ok, so I'm considering going to a modular full face helmet. Question I have is, how does this affect your ability to hear your dash mounted radio? Does it help? Less wind noise? Or does it make it so you have to crank it up really loud.
Thanks.

Modular Helmet

Actually makes pipes sound louder because the sound resonates by bouncing all around the inside of your helmet. Much harder to hear the radio

I have a modular helmet with my comm headset mounted on it and I plug it in and listen to the radio through the helmet speakers when I'm using that helmet (usually only on long trips). I wear a half helmet the rest of the time and just listen to the fairing speakers. I wouldn't want to try to use the modular helmet without the helmet speakers.

I wear a full face and it makes it harder to hear the speakers. If I want to listen to music, I use my earphones.

If I want to listen to noise pollution, aka todays music, I take my truck or the car.
I ride the bike to enjoy the sights and sounds of the trip. Just sayin'

My Shoei neotec doesn't resonate the pipe sound and you don't get much wind noise either. At low speeds with the shield up you can hear the radio just fine. When I'm on the highway for a extended period of time I switch to my Scala rider and Bluetooth music from my cell phone

Modular

Thanks for all the responses. I didn't mean there would be more wind noise, meant the mod might eliminate it. As far as noise pollution, a little Eagles Take it Easy, or Hotel Cal, I don't consider noise pollution, and if I don't want to have music, I'll just ride my Nomad.

I have a modular helmet, and Ive found it really isn't any different than a full face, I rarely ever lift the front. But I do like the built in sun visor, it saves me needing or forgetting sunglasses.

Something else to consider is modular helmets are heavier than full face helmets and way heavier than 3/4 helmets.
I wore my modular twice and sold it on Ebay, to damn heavy.

Modulars tend to have more wind noise than full face helmets. If you can afford it, check out a Shuberth C3. Supposed to be the quietest modular out there from a wind perspective. I can tell you that my fulmer modular is very loud from the wind unless the shield is up all the way.

And Tim is right, most modulars are heavier. You might want to compare specs between different ones.

Here's the good part, if you have your own source for music, you can listen to your Lawrence Welk or Paul Whiteman as much as you like without bothering normal people.

Tim strikes me as a Slim Whitman type.

Check out the GMax GM54. I really like the one I have. It has built in sun shade and very little wind noise. I often ride with the main shield up and just the sun shade down for eye protection and have no problem hearing radio.

Yup, nice helmet but it is heavy.
That is the one I had for 2 rides and sold on Ebay.
