Tire Longevity Question

The rear will be dead in another 3,500, and the damned front might last forever if all you care about is tread..

If money isn't much of a problem replace both of them ASAP. Then you will find out what real tires on the nomad are about..

I liked metzlers on my 1500 very well. Soon I hope to put a new Dunlop up front, and the brick is still very legal with almost 10,000 on it. I went Darkside on the rear...

Tire Longevity Question

MAyeb a different beast maybe because of the way I drive. I have never had a bike more than 5000 miles, but I was not too excited wih the 880's. I had them on my last bike. A 94 honda magna and they felt squishy in the hard turns. by the time I sold it I had put about 400 miles on them and the rear was already nearing the endi of its life. Front still pretty good but they take a lot longer. My first little bike was for 2 months. it was a 92 rebel 250. ( i weigh 330 BTW) It was just for me to practice and learn on. I put 1500 on that one and they were some off brand tire I cant even think of.
I plan on trying out the dunlops when I need new ones for the NAD

Tire Longevity Question

I replaced my OEM tires with Metzeler ME-880s at 11,306 miles about a month ago.

Tire Longevity Question

I have 8300 on the stock stone rear tire and have 1/8 left. I could milk 10k out of it but I drive easy and always check my tire pressure.

Tire Longevity Question

On my 2000 1500 Nomad I get 16,000 to 20,00 out of the front on all brands I've run except the Metzler 880 which cupped heavily and was replaced at 14,000

Rear
12,500 OEM Bridgeston
14,000 Metzler 880
21,000-23,00 Dunlop Elite III

On my 2008 1600

Front
12,000 OEM Bridgestone (60% worn) Replaced with Dunlop Elite III 150/80-16 Bias

Rear
12,000 OEM Bridgestone Replaced with Dunlop elite III 180/70-16 Radial

Dunlops have 5000 miles on them and from the wear observed I anticipate at least 18,000 miles total or maybe more.l

Tire Longevity Question

The stock tires got 6500 rear and 22,000 front. The rear was replaced early due to heavy cupping. The front I ran down to the wear bars.

With the Metzlers I get about 12,000 on a rear. The frontMetz has 10,000 on it now & will probably get replaced at half tread due to cupping. Probably 12,000~14,000 miles.

Tire Longevity Question

Replaced stock Bridgestone 170 rear @ 5050 miles because of cupping and they ride like they're made out of dog poop!
Replaced rear with Metzler 880 Radial. Now running with stock stone bias front. Actually the combination isn't too bad, but I'm sure can be improved.
With 7,000 current miles the front will need to be changed within another couple thousand miles. Metzler is making a new radial front but they our still recommending bias front until they test radial. Some of you are already running front radial.
And Metzlers radial front is heavily backordered

My question: is anybody using M880 Metzler radial 180 rear with Dunlop Elite 3 radial front?

Lastly, some have questioned where Metzlers are currently being made. according to Metzler rep talked to, all radials are being made in Germany and all bias made in Brazil.

Tire Longevity Question

I replaced the rear at 5600 miles. They were at 2.5/32nds. Was going on a trip so I opted to replace a little early. Minimum is 2/32nds on the tread by the manual. Put a E3 on the rear. What a difference. Took a 100 or more miles to get used to them. A side note. It took almost 300 miles to wear most of the little tits on the tire off. I have almost 1000 miles on them and should take a depth reading on them.

Tire Longevity Question

I got 7500 on my rear stone, It was almost a slick by then. I changed the front at the same time.
Side note; I will probably go to Dunlop Elite when the Metz 880's I put on wear out. I really don't like the way the front tire growls in the curves. It annoyes the hell out of me. My buddy who has a BMW 1200LT has the same tires as I do and has the same growling noise.

Tire Longevity Question

I had 7500 on the rear tire, the wearbars were starting to show. I replaced it with a Metzler 880 180-70-16 one size wider/(taller) also, trying to correct the speedo error a little, haven't checked it yet though.

I'm hoping to get a few more miles out of the Metzler.

Currently got 9400 on the stones. I am looking for tires now. I can not make up my mind between the Mets and Elite III.
