caddman mod but removing the snorkel

i was playing around, decided to check the cam tensionner,

and decided to remove the snorkel, removed the intake and trottle body

i will block the right backing plate where it normally gets the air from the other side, remove the solenoid,disconnect the wires

and put a nice K&N and chrome cover ,

anybody has done this?

Yup, lots. I went with the Spectre filter, way fewer beer-dollars than the K&N.

LOL most of us cut what you call the snorkel. I cut mine about 5/8ths in from the left side flange as seated, so I could plastic weld it back again some rainy day when Govt grows too big for it's britches. I run the same set up now and did on my 01 as well right side only OEM backing plate Spector filter and cover.


Personally I don't like the K&N filters for all times filters. They need to be oiled and then to work god they need to be filthy. IMO they allow too much crud to pass thru. But then I live rural and have salted dirt roads and lots of dust in summer.

that was a bitch .to get the intake outvof the way , didnt want to cut the tube,

it all started when i did the dumbest thing,checking the cam tensionner and using the ratchet end of a 12mm wrench ,so ended up stock to the 2nd cylinder, and not like ratchet theres no switch to change to the opposite direction , so i needed space to cut the wrench with a cutting wheel

so now ordered a moroso filter,(coyote mod)

cost me a new intake gasket as well

still have to do the cam tensionner of cylinder2, the other one was ok,

got the part from my local kawa dealer

Ha! I did the same thing with a ratcheting box end wrench, but I was able to get mine off without ruining anything.

I just removed all the backing plates and cut the tube in a place i can plastic weld it if I ever want to. Then I used a 2 foot long dowel and a dead blow mallet to drive that plastic thing out. It went out pretty easy. I did that long before i needed extenders.

Ha ha ha....since we're all fessing up, I did it too! Took me about 1/2 hour to get the wrench off. Thought I was going to have to cut the wrench or trim the fins on the head....

Probably a dumb question. Is there any way to get the crossover tube out without cutting it? If so, how? I have done the Chucksters Dual Plate intake and want to remove it. I feel that it will allow more air to circulate around the motor. I've also purchased the coaster plates, but will install when I do something about the tube. If cutting is only option, oh we'll.

Why the duel plate kit if you are removing the tube? And no you either cut it or remove the intake manifold replacing the O rings seals at that time. You could get away with re-using these O rings but I wouldn't if it were me..

I cut my cross over tube in such a way I could hammer it back in and plastic weld it back. The removal of the vac pod we call Medusa Head isn't really in the way but a work time where both are done i can see being timely as to the efforts involved, as the gas tank needs off for both.
The cutting way you just removed the side backing plates and cut the flange off the tube apx 5/8ths of an inch back. Then with a longer dowel and mallet drive the tube out with some care.

I got the dual plate cause I like the symmetry of the bowls and I have the "Ride to Live, Live to Ride" aftermarket covers. I planned to use the the left side bowl to hide the DOBECK TFI. But right now, it's just for show. May change my mind about that one day.

Got it. So far my 06 has been naked on the left, but i found a HD horn cover at a yard sale for 5 bucks. it's still sitting in my tool box, and I am in no hurry to put it on. My old solder on TFI lives in the left side keyed cover near the velcro strap. it's just velcroed on too. I did like the solder on units best because you can cut wire and make it just right with no slices mid wire. Unless you can find a used one now you probably can't buy one.

Yeah, that's where my TFI currently is as well. I have the plug-and-play type. I just folded the excess wire and it is tied/velcroed in with the TFI. Can't decide whether to leave it there or move under left cover. Still want to remove the tube and medusa stuff.
