Want to Buy.

Does anyone have a pair of baffles for Vance & Hines Dual Baggers they would sell or do you know where these can be purchased? The Nomad my wife Bought last week has had the baffles removed and cut off. She wants the Nomad to be quieter.

Do what I did. Buy the wife some earplugs. Save yourself a chunk of change in the process.

Or make a pair of baffles, it wouldn't be difficult at all.

I've repacked mine at about 14,000 miles and again at about 28,000. Each time the packing was about 20% burned away and the pipes had gotten noticibly louder.

I just bought rolls of Frost King fiberglass strip used for wrapping water pipes, and wrapped the baffles up with several layers of that. You can get it at any hardware store. If you use one roll per baffle and wrap more loosely the sound will be softer. If you use 1 1/2 rolls per baffle and wrap them tightly, the sound will be more distinct and louder. Just wrap 'em up and tape the ends with a wrap of masking tape.

Wear gloves unless you like to scratch you palms for a week after. ;)

Oh, yeah. The baffles were caked with carbon and did not come out without a fight. I used a little slide hammer (type used for dent pulling) with a forged hook on it. It snagged them out in about 4 licks.

When I got my nad, I pulled the baffles out to see how they looked. I hosed them down with carb cleaner and ultimately poured gas over them and set them on fire. Then I took a sand blaster to them. I didn't realize that they are a stainless steel color! Then I sprayed them down with flat black engine enamel and they go in and out alot smoother.

Did you tell the neighbors it was a time honored motorcycle ritual? "The Flaming of the Baffles."
