Completed: Wompus rack & King Tour-pak on my Nomad

This project was far easier than I had thought it was going to be. I lucked out with finding a used Tour-pak locally in a maroon color that is close enough to the color of my bike for me to save the painting expense. After spending a few days thinking about different ways to use a quick disconnect mount, I opted for the Wompus rack. It was definitely a good choice. The Wompus rack made this incredibly easy. Man from the pics I'd have sworn you had it painted to match - definitely close enough, and a great look!

Question about your thoughts to use quick-disconnect as I sometimes wish my trunk was easier to remove - did you decide against it because it was too costly, too complicated, or not even available? Clearly I never even researched the prospect so I'll take the lazy way out and ask you!

There is definitely a way to make it happen. I bought this trunk with a quick disconnect bracket already on it... see my thread in the for sale section.

I started by removing the passenger backrest and luggage rack, but left the grab bars. I noticed the space in between the grab bars happened to be exactly the same as the width of the qd bracket. I went down to the hardware store and bought some bolts, bushings and washers to make a collar for the qd bracket to snap on to. That part worked fine. I just needed to fabricate some kind of extender to secure the back end of the qd bracket and give the trunk plenty of support. I flat out don't have the time to mess with it right now, so I opted for the Wompus rack. I figured that I'd likely not be taking it off anytime soon.

Dshelly makes a quick release system for a solo rack and a sissy bar mount. Refer to posts # 38 & 44 for pics of his setup. Perhaps he could make trunk rack for a two-up arrangement.

Yah, that looks awesome. Wompus makes a great product at a fair price and nothing like an HD Tourpak. Have both, love the combo.

Would you mind letting us know what you paid for the tour back. It would provide a good reference point. I saw one somewhat like it on ebay for about $450 or so. New they run about $1700.

It was right place right time for me on this deal.. the seller was moving out of town & I picked it up for $350.
