oil leak

front cylinder left side. looking directly at the front cylinder it looks to be coming from some where around one of the spines that stick out. its not a major leak. I changed the oil two days ago and the oil looked like molasses ??? but did check oil level before changing and it was full of oil. My uncle owned the bike about a year before me and never rode it , but i did . He never added any oil but neither did i. so its obviously a very slow leak. havent really got down and looked to see where its coming from just looking for some sugesstions on where to start.

Check if its the rubber cam plug above the spark plug on the cylinder head. They tend to seep after a while.
You can clean it well and then rub some silicone seal into the edges of the plug. This usually stops it leaking.

If the leak is high on the side of the engine the source is likely one of two possibilities. Its either the cam plugs like Ring said or the rocker cover gasket. Look to see if it is coming from under the chrome cover on top of the engine head.

Is there a typo? 6,800, or 68,000?

A motorcycle at 12 years old, which is 84 years old in human years with 70,000 miles on it deserves to leak a little bit!
Quite picking at the damn thing and just ride it.

oil leak

Mine started leaking from the back cylinder on the right side at the top today. It looks like it's coming from under the chrome cover. I started it this morning and was letting it warm up. Came back outside and saw oil leaking out. So would this be the cam plug or the rocker gasket? Are either difficult to fix? I've only had the bike for a few months. It's a 99 with only 14k on it and I really want her back on the road! Thanks for any info!

Small oil leaks are going to happen after a few years and miles. Just annoying and means you have to clean them more often. Isn't going to hurt anything. Just check your oil and keep the level where it should be.
