HD Fairing Project

A few weeks ago, I found a HD inner and outter fairing on Craigslist for $100. It had been laid down, but nothing a little paint and body couldn't fix. I tried to make the brackets that are available online, but decidet to design my own. I forgot to take any pictures of the brackets before I closed everything up, but next time I have it open, I will get a few. I took one of the saddlebags to the paint store and matched as close as I could. The silver is exact and the red is just a little off, but close enough.

The fairing looks great. What kind of radio do you have installed? Did you make the brackets to install it?

The radio is an old Aiwa that was in my truck when I bought it and yes I did make the brackets. It attaches to the windshield mount on the upper tripple tree and goes up to the upper mounts on the inner and to the two mounts under the speakers to stiffen everything up. I will get some pics next time I have the outer off. Thanks for the compliments!

I really wish I would have taken a pic of the mounts, because there's no way I can describe it. I have a cross brace between the two brackets which supports the radio. The paint is just something I laid off and decided it looked good.

Thanks,, you made a support bracket that uses the Faring bracket support.sort of a shelf! Good idea,,did you insulate the bottom of the bracket for vibration?

Welcome to the "Nomad BatWing Fairing Brigade", and you did a great job. When I did mine (with auto paint) the silver was an exact match, and the blue was a little off. The guy at the paint shop told me to give it 4 to 5 months for the paint to FULLY cure, and then it would be right. He was right, after about 3 1/2 months, the colors were pretty close to looking like everything was painted at the same time, with the same paint. Give it a little time and it should match-up better.
