Mix and match

I currently have metz 880's on my 02, the front tire is about ready for replacement. Are there any issues with putting a Avon Venom on front while keeping the Metz 880 on the back, it has plenty of life left. I eventually plan to put the Avons on both the front and rear, but seems a waste to replace the rear tire when it is still good.

Thanks

I had a ME880 on the front and an Avon Cobra on the rear. I now have a Dunlop Elite 3 on the front and a car tire on the rear. I'd say you are safe to mix and match.

+1 I've mixed and matched plenty of times without any issues.

I was reading on a couple of website and they were saying you should replace your tires in pairs. I thought I should be ok doing just the front but wanted to be safe...

Thanks for your help guys...

Just be careful not to put a radial on front and bias on back. If both are radial, should not be a problem. Radial on rear and bias on front is acceptable.

Good point one was, but not the other.... though you never know the source on the web.

A Psychiatrist would probably diagnose those guys as being "Anal Compulsive."

Nothing wrong with replacing your tires in pairs if you're loaded with money!

Otherwise, I would only replace what needs replacing.

More good points...

880's are bias, that is why I was going with Venom(bias) instead of Cobra(radial), not to mention the Cobra doesn't come in the right size for the rear for the '02, which has 150/80-16 on both the front and rear.

Thanks

I was going to add, It's OK to mix brands and bias/radials as long as you .....
Bias front and rear
Radials front and rear
Radial rear & bias front
It is NOT recommended to run a radial front, and bias rear.

At least I wasn't asking about the Darkside or what tires to buy

I agree with many, but agree with this most.

When I had the 01 I added a 180 rear wide, and forget what the height aspect was..

Atleast 3 riders here run the same ct I do, in the same size, on 1500's. It could be an option.

If I'm not mistaken the Venom is softer and won't last as long as the cobra. I'd go up in size on the rear. IMPO.
