'14 Nomad accessory suggestions?

Hey, all.

I just bought a '14 Nomad. I'm NOT going to go crazy with the mods like I did last time (for those that have been around for a while) but I do need to add a few things and want everyones suggestions.

1) Backrest. I NEED a backrest. I know about the Grasshopper but don't care for it. What else is good and resonably priced?

2) Crash bar close outs. I might get some of those JBL (whatever they're called) hard lowers in the spring but since I plan on riding through the winter, I need something decent but inexpensive to close out the crash bars to keep some of the wind/rain/etc off of my legs.

3) Cell phone mount. I'm not adding a fairing (see, I said I wasn't going to go crazy this time), but I want tunes. I have a SENA along w/a SENA specific helmet so I'll play music from my phone (Samsung Galaxy S10+). My phone is supposed to be water proof down to 30 meters for 1 minute (or 1 meter for 30 minutes?) but I don't want to try that out. I need something that will securely hold my phone and protect it in any weather while still allowing me to use the touch screen. I'm familiar with RAM mounts and I'm sure most phone mounts will attach to those but I have no idea what mount to use.

4) Heel/toe shifter. /sigh/ The current owner cut the heel shifter off the assembly. I'll check in the mall and on eBay for a stock part but is there something aftermarket that works better than OEM that I don't know about?

5) Cover. I don't have a garage and while the bike will be ridden frequently all year, it will sit outside. I need something that won't scratch things up and will protect it from the weather. I don't need a trailering (heavy duty) cover.

6) Triple bags to fit windshield. I see a lot of these but I don't know if there are any that will mount to the OEM windscreen w/o modifications.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions, all.

plumber63---Those sure are expensive and some of them are from the UK but they're cheaper than a new Bakup. I noticed Utopia is on break until the middle of February. I can't see waiting that long. Thanks.

JD Hog---That is one seriously expensive shifter and I don't have a core but I emailed Chuckster to see what he can do for me. I don't need an extended shifter although the extended brake pedal will probably be in the future. Thanks for the heads up.

I really like my Grasshopper...

I bought Desert Dawgs to fill in the crash bars:

Thank you, all. Here's where I am.

2) Crash bar close outs. I just ordered the AirLites. I chose these over the Desert Dawgs only due to the cost. Thanks, BrokeAss and idhthept for the suggestions.

3) Cell phone mount. I bought a RAM Finger Grip mount to go along w/the rest of the RAM items I have. Hopefully, my phone really IS waterproof. :)

4) Heel/toe shifter. Chucksters (Joe) came through as expected. I don't doubt I'll end up w/his extended shifter and brake levers eventually but just can't justify the cost right now. Joe had a good core (stock shifter) he sold me.

5) Cover. I bought an inexpensive one off of Amazon. Good ratings so we'll see how good it is. Since the bike sits outside, I wanted to get 1 quickly.

Still looking for a backrest and bags for the windscreen. I'm quickly running out of money so some of the eBay ones suggested by plumber63 are probably out for now even though they look like great deals.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Before I went with the Mustang seat and back rest I used a Grasshopper for years. I found that the height of the back rest only needed to be up to my low back. The Grasshopper solo height was perfect. Plus the taller one was harder to get leg over. Worth the $.

Ultiimately, I may get an aftermarket seat/backrest. I've never ridden any of the 1700s so I don't know how those seats feel. One of the issues I had with the Grasshopper I had years ago was the height. I thought it was too tall. For the right price, I'd buy another Grasshopper and shorten it. Which brings me to the next post/quote. :)

Seems reasonable if it will fit a 1700 Nomad. I'll PM you in a minute.

Joe Stapleton makes a great back rest for the Stock Vaquero seat. it has a bracket that bolts under your seat ( receiver) They are around 220.00 Shipped. They are adjustable front to back and pivot angle, they clip/push in and pull up. Look him up on face book. Very well made and strong.

Have to ask him if they will work on your seat. I think the nomads have the voyager type, 2 part seats.

Yeah, Nomads have a 2 piece seat. It doesn't appear there's any sort of bracket under either seat that would work but I'll email Joe and ask if he's got something. Thanks!
