Are you tired of this?
I live in New England, Mass to be exact and every time another motorcyclist passes by in the opposite direction they have to give that fake wave, you know when they point to the ground or something similar. Do they do this in your neck of the woods? Frankly i wish it would stop I'm not for this at all i don't know this person and were not in a parade.
This is a poll and i vote against it. Whats your opinion? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

So you want to dictate how a person waves at you? At least they wave..... Would you rather they give you the bird? Good grief

If you don't like to wave then don't wave back
I wave at other motorcycles, trikes, crotch rockets and an occasional scooter I don't consider my wave "fake" I am just acknowledging another person out there enjoying two wheels and taking the same chances as I am. Kind of a respect thing to me. If they wave back, fine, if not that is up to them. I didn't vote as I don't think my wave is "fake"

On that meet up that we missed each other on I was waiting on the side of the road for id-man for a while. People thought that I was broke down on the bike. At least a dozen people stopped to see if I needed help. It was about ⅔ bikers and ⅓ regular cars that were actually bikers in their cages. It was good to see so many people offering help. This never happens in a car when I am in that position.
The wave is a sign of comradery. If you don't want to wave you don't have to. It's not a required thing. Most sport bike riders tend to point downward with the finger while most cruiser riders will flick their hand out low and sideways. For the poll I'm for it.

I find it very difficult to do the wave on my bike, having to stand up with my arms in the air makes the bike want to do stran.......OH! you're talking about waving, not the wave. Sure I wave, (but only my wife knows I''m faking it). Was it good for you?

Don't wave back then. Some won't care and others will just think you're an a**hole. It's up to you. I've ridden a good portion of the country and see it wherever I go. I don't think you "get it".

Just as when I'm in my vehicle here in a rural part of North Carolina where we wave to an approaching driver from the steering wheel, I consider the "wave" on my Beloved Nomad to another rider a courteous exchange of greetings, a salute if you will. Around here I wave to approaching vehicles because these folks know me and I see them at stores and restaurants. It gives me a good feeling.
When a wave is not return I just assume that the other guy is in "the zone", and think nothing more of it. I didn't vote either. I couldn't hazard a guess as to what the other guys thought are. I just assume when it's returned it's genuine. My wave is bona fide.

Really simple, don't wave back. Or do you feel compelled to wave back?

if you're complaining about it then obviously you don't understand. Motorcyclists / bikers have been giving each other a "wave" upon passing since way back when. I remember as a kid (I'm 53 now) riding on the back of my dads BMW and asking him if he knew the guy he waved at. He explained to me how it was something that motorcyclists did since they both shared the same interest and that it was sort of a gesture of respect for each other in a sense. Of course back then you didn't see as many people on bikes but none the less, its tradition. I pretty much always give a wave except when Im somewhere that a rally is going on and it just doesn't make sense to wave cause you'd be waving all day long .

I consider it a sign of respect for each other much like a salute or two knights raising There visors meeting along the road. If I pass You I am going to wave if You return the RESPECT or not is up to You !

Poll is set up for failure...either admit you like the FAKE wave, or dislike the FAKE wave///God forbid you actually like waving to others and sharing a kindred spirit.....
I enjoy waving to ALL riders ---- even when I am in the car... |

I usually wave, not sure if it's fake, maybe I should examine it closer. But many times they don't wave back and after years of riding sometimes I do kinda wonder why I wave. I mean like when you pass a group ride your hand is out there for quite awhile. And sometimes I'm busy with the clutch etc and can't wave back (hope they weren't offended).
I do know that at highway speeds I tend to drop my hand down to wave rather than put it up against a 75 to 80 mph wind. I have drag bars so sometimes I just flip my upper hand up without even leaving the grip. But I usually wave at everybody, even little scooters. Some of them look amazed that I'm even waving at them. If I see a biker stopped side the road though, I always turn around and go back to see if he (she) needs something etc. I haven't always done that for cages I see, but I probably should instead of assuming they have a tow etc coming from their cell phone. |
