What do gallstones and irregular heartbeat have in common?

Me.

I found out today that I have gall stones and will most likely have to have my gallbladder removed. This probably explains the pain under my ribs and shoulder blade.

My heart has also been doing weird things and tests revealed that it beats more than it should (extra beats). It is normal for it happen once in a while but in my case it can go on for hours where every few minutes my heart feels like it's doing back flips. Doc said I shouldn't worry too much about it but that's easier said than done. I will be visiting a cardiologist soon.

One thing is certain; caffeine and smokes are now officially off the table for me.

No Bruins for you. They will only irritate what you already have going.

When will you be doing the gallblader surgery?

The fast heart rate is something that you should be concerned with.

Here's a link to some info on Tachycardia which is the fast heart rate.

I don't know about the gallblader surgery as I haven't seen the surgeon yet.

My heart rate is not fast; I have extra heart beats. Where normal heart beat goes boom...boom...boom... my heart goes boom...boom...boom...boom.boom.boom...boom...boom.

I had the same heart issue in the early 2000's. The doctor said it was from caffeine and stress. Was still working in Law Enforcement and going thru a divorce (no stress there). My cardiologist said it was PVC - Premature Ventricular Contractions. Once the stress went away and I cut back on the caffeine they went away. I hope that is what you have and they go away soon, it is scary when you don't know what is going on.

Make sure they don't schedule your surgery until riding season is over.

Smartass . Had my gallbladder out when I was 30. Not too bad recoup time. Tried milking it as long as possible though. But that was before I had a motorcycle. Hope you get the heart straightened out - never to be taken lightly

Interesting reading here.... I just spent the last 12 hours in the ER with my dad. He is 68 and has already had a bad heart attack about 4 years ago. He called me yesterday saying he has felt really weird for 3 days and was going to check himself in. When they hooked up the EKG his heartbeat was all over the place. They put him on nitroglycerin and some other things. He is feeling better today but we had a scary night. Step mom is there with him now waiting on discharge. PVC was the term they kept using all night. Hope to see the cardiologist today and get him home.
Good luck with you treatment, hope all goes well.

Sorry to hear it Martin, the caffeine at least. The smoking you already know you should have quit by now. If you need advice my tip is the nicotine patch, it'll still be very strange to not smoke but you'll have the peace of mind to know those jitters are all from behavioral habit modification rather than nicotine withdrawl. Once you find other things to do with your hands I found letting go of the patch was the easy part. It took me 6 months to reach that stage but after 6 years I can report there's been no slips or even the slightest twinges to imbibe. One of the hardest and most rewarding things I ever conquered in life. Good luck.

Thank Joe. The funny thing, or strange, depending how you look at it, is that I only smoke when I drink or ride. As stupid as this may sound...I enjoy smoking. I shouldn't have a problem "quitting". I just hope I don't have to quit riding too.

It may be atrial fibrilation.....extra heart beats and they can speed your heart beat way up. I had my first problem in 97' and they finally got it "fixed" about three years ago. I took all kinds of drugs trying to control the heart rate..........finally they decided to do a cardiac ablation. The first one didn't work so they put me on some very nasty drugs (they will kill you if you take them too long) to see if the heart beat could be controlled at all. A year of those (caused some serious side effects) with no cardiac problems so they decided to do another ablation. This one seems to have fixed the problem, at least I haven't had to go to the ER for almost three years. I still get a weird "skip" now and then but I can live with that. Those 300+ beats a minute episodes will scare the crap out of you..........but not as bad as the 4 beats a minute ones. Hang in there......they can fix all kinds of problems now a days. Just costs an arm and a leg.

Decaf?
I love coffee. Really love it, but it doesn't like me as much. I can manage a couple cups a day after that I'm askin' for trouble.
