So buy a Nomad and put a more comfortable seat on it. That's what most of us did. Seats are easily changed and if that's the only thing keeping you from making a decision...

No you wouldn't, or you'd already have one. Come on, what's stopping you?

Not to hijack this thread any further, but on the news they were telling people not to walk outside without shoes or you'll get 3rd degree burns on your feet.

Do they really have to tell people this?

I hope they are just telling the legal citizens.

Which bike to get?

I'd get the ST1300........ go ahead, tell me "No you wouldn't or you'd already have one." (SHEESH! I'm surprised Brad ever found the gumption to actually get his Nomad rather than just continually telling people about it.)

Seriously, that Yamaha is a great bike. Nice styling, and Yamaha really does a nice job on fit and finish. But between those two I'd get the Nomad. I made that choice a couple years ago. Reasons:

1. Having dual pipes on one side of the bike restricts bag size which is counter to being a tourer and places the passenger floorboards up too high for passenger comfort unless your wife is very short. My wife is 5'6" and they were too high for her.

2. Air cooled can be an issue when riding in places like Arizona that go up to 119 degrees (see posts above).

3. The passenger backrest and seat are in no way comparable to the Nomad.

So both are great bikes. None of those are rally fatal flaws, but those tipped the balance to the Nomad for me.

I'd suggest getting whatever one you like better. I looked at Road Stars when I sold my first Nomad, but after sitting on a few, I decided the Nomad "fit" me betters so I bought another. Many of us have gone aftermarket on seats, and are happy with Mustangs, Corbins, etc...

If the only thing that makes the RS a "better fit" for you is the seat - that seems like an easy fix. There are plenty of aftermaket seats on the market for the Nomad and it's an all-around better touring bike with better lean angle and handling. A buddy of mine has a RS silverado. I personally thought it handled like a pig. But Yamaha's motor is great. I had an RS Warrior for quite a while, but it's a completely different bike. I enjoy my Nomad a lot more.

Used or new makes a difference also. A used bike will give you a totally different experience from the get go. I just bought my Nomad and have put in a final drive seal and will probably put a clutch spring in when I get back from my current trip. But I spent about $9000 less than I would've on a new one. When you're making these initial changes it makes it hard to know how you will feel about your bike in the future. So, take this in consideration if buying used. If you are buying used and like both models, buy the one that makes you feel most comfortable and will be the easiest to make "yours". I think in 6 months of tinkering adjustment, I will like my Nomad more than I did my C50.

I wouldn't let the seat be the deciding factor. I could have bought pretty much anything I wanted when I bought the Nomad. It was what I wanted and I got it. I would buy the Nomad but that is just me. You should buy what makes you feel good like my Tennessee friend said.
