2009 Western Regional Tournament

Well I finally made it home safely today....3100 miles all told since I left Everett on August 1st. What an incredible journey this was. Being able to combine a long road trip with a once-in-a-lifetime Little League assignment was a dream come true.

I think many of you kept up with my posts in another thread that I updated as I could, but I would like to share here some photos from the trip. While in San Bernardino, I had occasion to ride about 300 miles worth of mountain roads in the area....and they are very well worth riding....all of them!

Welcome to the show.... ....

The 2009 Umpire Crew.....

Official mug shot.....

Field of dreams....

Home away from home....

Overlooking San Bernardino on ride to Big Bear Lake......

National Anthem prior to a game.....

Prior to my first plate assignment.....

On the dish......

Don't look now, but here they come!.......

Sit down Meat......

West Region Championship.....est. 12,000 in the crowd (including tent city and outer perimeter)!....

I can't believe I'm really here.....

Yosemite National Park....

I spoke with Blowndodge while I was in town, but we weren't able to hook up as he was working when I had my free time. He was familiar with the roads though. The Angeles Crest Road (CA 2) from Wrightwood to Pasadena was a dandy!

The ride home was as pleasureable as the ride down (except for the big rig trucks....god I hate them). I spent one night in Reno, NV and one in Salem, OR before my last push up I-5 for home. Not bad....1300 miles in two and a half days! I'm glad I took the time to ride through Yosemite NP....something I will probably never get a chance to do again. Now....for my own bed!

Glad you made it home safely, Kris. I got to see one game. Those kids from Chula Vista were awesome.

I think the Chula Vista team (Park View LL) will make a good run. Those boys are home-run hitting machines! I worked three of their games at the Regional tourney....they will make a good showing, but I think they can be beat if they face any tough pitching.

Indeed....World Champs they are! I was stoked when they came back from being down 3-0 in the 3rd. They did it with some good fortune with the Taiwan team commiting all those errors. No home runs for the Cal team in the final...and the subs came through more than the big dogs! It was fun to see them win it after working their games at the Regional... !
