What it has turned into is kind of like your black Friday except the timing is different. Everybody lines up, pushes and shoves and loses all sense of dignity to grab up the stuff on sale that nobody wanted to buy for Christmas.

The real origin of the name comes from Britain. Gift giving was on Christmas day, but donations collected mostly in boxes set up at churches were distributed to the needy the next day.

I got a bottle of Cruz Reposado Tequila for Christmas. That was one of my "chores" today.

And here I was thinking Boxing Day was to go around picking fights with people.

My daughter too! Yesterday the mall was a zoo, cars were lined up on the service road of the Trans-Canada hwy waiting to get in the parking lots. After braving the crowds in the mall, she was returning to her car. Another woman spotted her and decided to wait for her spot. So far so good, but then my daughter was not ready to move out of the spot fast enough, so the woman started honking her horn. Big mistake lady! My daughter is now not in any hurry at all, makes two cell phone calls and shuffles through her CD collection. The honking gets worse and it would appear that the women is determined that that is her spot and won't move on to look for another, so my Daughter gets out of her car, locks it up and goes back in the mall. Welcome to boxing day.

I though it was the day you got rid of the "tighty whities" you'd worn since October (when it got to cold to go comando) and put on the new "boxers" you got for Christmas?
