What is your Bike History

I am sitting here in cold snow covered north and got to thinking about all the bikes I have owned over the years prior to the Nomad so I thought I would start a thread for others that may be bored and wanting to ride as much as I am right now.

Here is my list that started back in the 60's

Rupp Mini Bike
Suzuki 125
Kawasaki 175
Honda 350
Yamaha 400 Enduro
Yamaha 650 Maxim
Honda 750 Shadow
83 1100 Gold Wing
83 Yamaha 1200 Venture
99 Yamaha 1300 Royal Star Venture
89 Yamaha 1300 Venture Royale

Current Bike: 05 Blue/Silver Nomad

Hope this is not a duplicate thread.

John

What is your Bike History

I've wanted a bike since I was very, very young. When I was turning five years old, I asked for a motorcycle, and in its place I got an orange and white Kawasaki jersey and a Big Wheel. When I turned 15 and could get licensed, I asked again for a motorcycle (a Honda Rebel 250) and instead of that I got a used red and black Kawasaki 80cc street bike (wish I could remember the model, it was "K" something or other). I was very angry I didn't get the Rebel I wanted, but drove the bike I did get anyway even though I knew it had been wrecked before (although the bike had been repainted, I could see a significant dent in the tank, and could also see where the kickstand had been welded back on). This bike stopped running properly on me, and my parents wouldn't get it fixed, so I stopped riding it and it sat in the garage for several years before being sold in a garage sale for $50.

I wanted a bike off and on again for years, but one thing or another stood in the way (mostly money), so I didn't ride a bike again until I turned 32 and bought a 2004 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Classic. I rode the hell out of that bike, even in 30-40 degree weather, but wanted to take longer rides with greater comfort so I upgraded in January 2006 to a 2005 1600 Nomad. I got one hell of a deal since it sat on the show room floor for months on end with no takers. I had sat on it six months prior, but wasn't as interested in it at the time as I was the 1600 Classic. But, I wound up with the Nomad, and haven't looked back or regretted it ever since.

What is your Bike History

Bought a Honda 175 Scrambler in 1969 as my first bike. Sold it when I went to boot camp in 1971 so that my wife would not kill herself on it while I was gone. Bought a Honda CB350 in 1973 while I was stationed in North Carolina, sold it before I went to boot camp a second time for DI School for the same reason. Long dry spell until 2001 when my wife bought me a Suzi Volusia. She knew I longed for a bike and wanted to make me happy. I asked her if she bought life insurance on me at the same time. I put 47,000 miles on that bike and traded it on my 2007 Nomad last July. It now sits in the garage with 8,000 miles that I put on it before winter hit. Pray for spring.
