Greetings, welcome and CONGRATULATIONS!
Yes, the 1700 is a heat generating machine. Lots of good experienced advice given above. I am 1/2 through the warranties on both our Vaq's. I waited for awhile on the first one, for the same reason you listed. When I finally gave in, I was SO glad. The reflash addresses many points of concern, including heat. When the second Vaq came home, the ECU was pulled at 36 miles and sent to Ivan. The bike had 6 miles on it when I bought it. I live 20+/- miles from the dealer... :) Ride safe and enjoy!

Are voyager ECU’s expensive? Can you buy one to Ivanize and put stock back in if there is a warranty service problem? Just a thought.

You can find used ones for much less but they have to be the same part number as they don't fit multiple years. If I have a problem I will purchase a new/used one for any warranty claims. My local dealer has no problems with the re-flash so I have not worried about this so far.

I cant see how a dealer would know that the ECU has been reflashed unless they remove it. Ivan puts a sticker on his reflashed ECU's.

I have a 2016 Voyager, no ECU reflash yet, changed to full synthetic oil at about 9k miles, runs noticeably cooler, also remember it can take 3000 to 5000 miles for full break-in, it will run different after break-in . these bikes run hot, they will handle the heat, have ridden in 100deg weather stop and go traffic, not a problem, just don't ride with shorts.

On my 2010 I changed coolant to engine ice, wrapped the exhaust, added heat deflectors, and vents to the windshield. All the 1700 engines are the same, but the Voyager blocks the wind so well that you feel the heat off the engine. The Evans flash should help.

The exhaust wrap I got from the auto parts store. Pulled the exhaust. Wrapped according to directions. Put new exhaust gaskets, reinstalled, and put the chrome heat shields back on the exhaust to hide the wrap.
