CoachA and MikeinFL cruise install w/Photos

We are about done with Mike's bike and about 60% on mine. Talk about some PITA situations. Ugh. We started this morning around 10ish and it is now 5:00. My bike has been a royal pain to deal with while Mike's has been ok with some minor glitches.

We have taken a few pictures that I will upload later. Typing this from the garage with the laptop on top of the washing machine. We've had CJ's install up on the computer along with Gadget's instructions all day. They have both been a great help.

Hopefully, by later this evening, we will have both bikes up and running.

cool, look forward to seeing the pics and hearing how it turned out...obviously you guys must be doing the "electronic cruise" install.
it's good you guys are getting the practice in now, that way when the rest of us florida guys want to do it we know who to go to...LOL

It took me about 5 hrs to do a full plug and play- no fabrication required/all componants supplied- cruise control. That was with step by step instructions. I'm glad I didnt have to worry about fabbing anything. Even so, pretty complex and time consuming, even just to deconstruct the bike to do the install.

Cheers

Good luck to Y'all, I know that you will "get-er-done". It's not hard to do when you break it down into little steps (as long as your not running all LED lights like I am), and the reward is WELL worth it. Looking forward to the pics of the step-by-step install.

Good going on the install, If I was to do a second bike like you guys, It would have been done in half the time. Once you see it done its not that intimidating at all.
Test it at all speeds to see if it sets properly, with the dip switch settings using Gadgets instructions I couldn't set it at anything over about 60mph. I experimented with them and currently find that having #2 #5 #7 set to ON, and the others set to OFF seems to work best for highway speeds on my bike. But it wont set at all below about 55mph.

Well, mine is up and running with the cruise and the auxiliary fuel cell installed. Mike's has an issue, we think it is the switch or we have the coil wire on wrong. Here are some pictures in a slide show. Just click on the image and you should be able to see the slideshow.

We had a bear of a time doing my bike. I don't know how many people have done the cruise on a '99 carbed bike, but putting the thing on was a beast. I finished it up this morning and tied up all the wires, hooked up the 4 gallon auxiliary tank and took it for a ride. Success!

I'll will have to see how it does above 60, that is the highest I could get it set at on the road I used to test it. I'll try it at 70 tomorrow.

Ringadingh, your right. If I had to do another one I could get it done much faster.

I pretty sure it's the coil wire. I didn't hook it up to the black wire. I'll work on it tomorrow and see if that does it. I also has too much sealant on the rubber membrane in the switch, it prevented the set button to make a connection. I cleaned it up and it's making a connection now.

Many thanks to CoachA and his brother Brent for letting me do this along side of them so we can bounce ideas off each other and make the install much easier.

So if I wanted to do this mod to my Nad, you'd be a good resource, Mike? I would consider taking you and Natalie out for dinner as payment since I'm retired and kinda broke! ;)

And you better quit getting things done or you're gonna lose your rep as "do it never." LOL

Seriously, you, Ron and Brent did a great job!! <applause>

Took it for a shake down tonight and it held speed at 75 and 60 going up a hill. I would say it is a success so far.

Brent and Mike did most of the work on the bikes. I did some of the less mechanical stuff and held a flashlight in my mouth while I cursed the dang gum carb for being in such a crappy spot. Mike thought that was pretty funny.

Thats great Coach, if it holds well at 75, it sounds like it going to work ok. How low of a speed can you lock it in at? And are you using Gadgets dip switch settings?

I got it set at 45, haven't tried anything lower. If I ride it in to work tomorrow, I will try doing it at a lower setting. We did use the Gadget settings. But I am going to keep an eye on them and if I need to, will change to what you have.

I just hope it doesn't get loose too soon. It is a PITA to get to the bracket that the cables are tied into. With the two tubes in the back bone of the bike and the location of the carb, it makes for mighty tight quarters for meaty hands. We couldn't get three hands in there when we needed them, lol.

Getting into tight spots is what took up a lot of my time also, When the book says connect cable to throttle, it sounds like a 10 second job. Not quite in a lot of cases.
Mine holds well at about 70mph, at 80 it loses speed on grades.

We'll see how the grades go when we are on the road. Not many around these parts.

Way to go guys!
Mine still won't hold speed higher than 60. I have the switch settings that Ring is using. Hoping to get some input in Custer on it. Stumped on what else to do with it. Glad yours is working at higher speeds.
