Harley Hand Controls for fairing stereo

Anyone done this using a basic kenwood or other aftermarket stereo other than the harley, or could you use the harness and adapt. Anyway anyone interested in figuring out this or is it possible?

Ive never heard of anyone doing this, as its hard to know if an aftermarket stereo is compatible with the HD controls. You could probably do it if you used an HD stereo system. I think they are made by Harmon Kardin. It would be nice though. Also the Harley turn signal lights are on seperate switches and would have to be connected as such, thats probably the easy part.

Ring I don't even understand the question? In part because I don't bother with tunes riding, and in part because if it were me putting a radio on a bike I would use a marine quality for salt water radio on a bike. The only times I would miss hearing tunes is camped and with the engine off.

I can't tell if he means a few lousey knobs, plug in terminals for the wiring or what???

I know there are certain aftermarket stereos that are compatible with the HD handlebar controls. Most stereos capable of using a "steering wheel control" interface will work. Try the touring section of hdforums.com and there should be posts about it.

I can speak from experience that handlebar audio controls are a nice thing to have.

thinks scott I will look over there, macmac I know some would never prefer any tunes while riding and I personally like them some of times sometimes just the motor rumbling, but I would like to come up with a safter solution than a wireless remote mounted or always having to pretty much stop to change channels or risk messing with the stereo while trying to ride.

Most newer decks are going to have a small remote you could mount on the bike. This is not quite what you where asking but would definitely work.

I use a JVC Arsenal stereo, and it came with a wireless infrared remote. The battery in the remote usually will last 2 years. Here's a pic of how I have it mounted, along with the Audiovox cruise control controller. It works out well.

yeah I got a remote I was going to mount right on the back screw of the chrome mount for the speedo, I was just thinking cleaner and a little safer idea. Maybe I will buy some used parts and see if I can make something happen, it would be pretty slick for all metric users if i could come up with a solution.

I have a set up similar to cliff, running a Sony marine system.

When I picked the stereo for my fairing, I specifically wanted one with a wired remote. I had to order it as a seperate part. Unfortunately when I received it, it was substancially bigger then I anticipated (and about 2 inches thick). So, I mounted my wireless remote below my gps mount and no one has messed with it yet.
It's nice to have the controls at the fingers when doing highway speeds.

Wouldn't it maybe be a bit easier to use Kawi controls from a 1700 Voyager? That's what I was thinking of doing someday, along with the cruise control...

The cruise control idea is interesting. I wonder if it would work, since the voyager is throttle by wire?

does it depend on what type of stereo and the control wires for that?
What brand of system does the voyager use?
