Seats?
OK I know every butt is not the same and there are many seats.
I need to have a drivers backrest and a nice seat for my butt because I have a bad back. I pulled the stock seat from the back of my garage and put it on my bike. So what I need to know is.... What seat you have, with a drivers backrest, does it move you up, back, down etc from the stock seat? I am 6 feet tall, 295 pounds, so I need something that will not hurt my tail bone or lower back, but I do not want to be pushed forward or sit any higher....So what do you have and how does it compare to the stock seat? I had a Corbin seat on my bike, with a drivers backrest, I did not like it, sent it out and they removed the wedge in the back of the seat and added a soft top to it. Worked OK but moved me back too far and sat me too high. I had a mustang years ago but can not remember how it was, it was before I hurt my back and did not have a drivers backrest. I know day-long can make me a seat but they can not tell me if they can sit me the same has stock or that it will not hurt my back....so what do you guys have??? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

After market Seat
I'm 6'3" 240lbs and I find my Mustang seat with the adjustable back rest perfect. The passenger pilion is also good and beefy for long 2up rides. I'm 63 yrs old and still ride 500+ miles somedays. I find the Mustang seat doesn't push me forward so my legs are in a comfortable position - highway pegs make a huge difference as well.
I guess everyone has an opinion but this is what works for me. Problem is it's hard to try out different seats on your own bike. Good luck |

6-2 300lbs bad back. Ride on a Russell Day Long with backrest. It's without a doubt the best seat I have ever been on.

I don't have a bad back but I do have a Russell Day Long. It will move you up about an inch and back about two. It is a great seat

I use an Airhawk seat cushion along with a Grasshopper backrest and have had some good success with this setup. The backrest alone is a great help. BTW, I have a bad back as well.

I was just at Day Longs site trying to get prices, I will have to call them, if I go with DL I just need the drivers seat done with the added backrest, the rear seat can stay stock and just be recovered. I could not find info on that set up. Again thanks for your reply, mj |

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking about adding a Grasshopper backrest, trying to get more info on them. Does the backrest fold down?

I have a Russel Daylong and its fantastic, I.m 6'2" 170 lbs with a bad back, and can ride the bike literally 8-9 hours at a time with no problem. Compared to the stock seat and a modified stock seat that I had, its a world of difference.

The best back rest out there is the Bakup backrest. It is adjustable up,down, forward and back. It is contoured not flat across your back like others. Expensive, yes. But you get what you pay for.

Just a bit, $89 for the Grasshopper, $359 for the Bakup

Mustang with the drivers backrest for me. I know you are looking for something that doesn't move you forward but i think the mustang does a little. The trade off is my back doesn't hurt. On day long rides i can swap the position of the backrest and i fell that helps a lot. I'll usually start with the backrest lowered just to the top of the seat so i have good tailbone support, if i'm out all day eventually ill raise it up to take the weight off my middle/upper back. This seems to work for me but everyone is different. No substitute for trying them out yourself.
