You'll get used to not seeing the front wheel in no time. All of us with fairings had to do it. It's not a big deal.

Something you'll never see in Georgia.

Okay. That's something I've never attempted.

I wondered that myself, Dave.

Been working 60-70 hours/week so I haven't had much time to do anything recently. Today (starting about 10pm last night), I started working on the stereo/speakers. I decided I would get them done today if it killed me. Way too much put it together just to take it all back apart to trim this or that. Put it back together then apart again to trim something else. I finally got it all together just in time to remember the piece of aluminum in the back of the Blazer I was going to cut to fit behind the speakers (to cover the original holes). Guess I'll be taking it apart yet again (but not today). It's still lacking some rubber trim and it's not bolted down as I have too much yet to do on the main body of the fairing.

I started by trying to make a stereo wiring harness the right way (solder/heat shrink, zip ties, etc). It's not the prettiest, but I think it came out OK. Good thing as I'll be starting the main wiring harness tonight.

On a side note, I don't deal with stress very well. If (God forbid) I were to get in a wreck, I'll NEVER do this again. Either someone will do the work for me (with the insurance money), I'll go with a batwing (where everything's already cut, etc) or I'll stick with stock. I've had a constant headache for the past 2 months. It won't look bad when it's done, but it'll never be nice enough to go through this again.

I know exactly how you feel
I have been working on mine non stop since just after Christmas
for the front mount I welded two bolts to the neck then made a plate i could mount whatever i decided to from there. You could also build a mount like the old vetter's had they were like a platform on either side of the bike that the faring rested on. I think what you are doing will work good though. If I hadn't all ready made my mount I would make one like you want

I'm with you on that. It's money, but Road Glide would have saved you some stress.

Looks good though.

I think a batwing would have been a lot simpler overall.

There is no art in a batwing though. Anyone can purchase an aftermarket kit...a true artisan would go for a 1 off custom...+ highway riding with cross winds (on any bike with a big fairing can be challenging)...with it mounted to the frame instead of the bars, you don't have the wind buffet transfered to your forks, so in the long run it is safer.

I have a brother with a V2k that wants to do this...sending him this thread

You're probably right. If money had been no object, I probably would have gone with a Road Glide fairing. At least everything's already laid out.

Indeed. And would have been MUCH cheaper in the end.

May be no art but much less stress, too. I really think I'd go batwing next time only for the stress part. Wouldn't be the exact look I was after but I could have it mounted and working in a couple weekends instead of 2 months (and counting).

When you have it on the bike permanently, you will forget all the stress created over some
of the process. Yours will be a work of love. Chill and you will be enjoying it very soon.
