Las Vegas????

Have any of you ridden your bikes to Vegas?

I am thinking about riding down this summer (I know...very hot).

My real question is....are there any "motorcycle friendly" casino/hotels? My main concern is parking it somewhere safe for a few days.

I haven't been to Vegas for a few years, but I'm sure if you slip a parking valet a few bucks they will let you park where they can keep an eye on your bike. Most hotel/casinos have self-parking lots nowadays and they are usually patrolled and there are security cameras everywhere.

Vegas is almost as hot as Phoenix during the summer months. If you aren't used to 100-110 degree heat every day, watch out.

Las Vegas????

The Mesquite rally last year in June was unseasonably hot! Even with as much water as I was drinking it wasn't enough. Make sure you review heat stroke and heat exhaustion symptoms before you go. Early in the day or later at night would be better than midday.

Harrah's is usually pretty good with parking. Several casinos have separate areas for motorcycles. Last time we were there, the wife somehow got a special rate at the Rio and their parking garage was pretty good too. I usually park near the elevators in the parking garages. More cameras in those areas. Security, if they are telling the truth, usually keeps a closer eye on the bikes. I had no problems when I was there anyway. HD riders are far more paranoid than we are about their rides.

I did not have any problems with the freeways as long as you avoid rush hour. The side streets can be a killer. I had a taxi shift lanes while he was stopped at a light. I finally pushed the Nomad back between a couple of cars to get out of his way. Another blond, in a van with a cell phone, passed me in a bicycle lane then slammed on the brakes to keep from hitting the car directly in front of me. I am a coward and have never had the guts to take the Nomad down the strip.

Stay alert and stop often to keep hydrated. I'm probably going back up in March for a trade show. If you have a couple of places in mind, I'll take a swing by them and let you know what I think.

Las Vegas????

My wife and I rode through Vegas last April on our way home from Laughlin. April temps were great! (actually quite warm) In Northern Utah we get occasion snow in April so it was in the 30's when we left here. I'm not sure I would try it in the summer (Bloody hot) I'm a wuss. My lower left sig pic was taken on that trip in April around Hoover dam. That was the evening as the sun was setting. You can see how sunny it was in the background (we were in the shadow of the casino) I just checked the alamanac on that trip it was around 75-80 degrees (warmer in Laughlin) the record high was 99 so it looks like even in April it could climb into the 90's.

I would suggest you take this short 135 mile ride Through the Valley of Fire if you have time.
