Sold the Nomad

When I went to Sturgis this past year i test drove an assortment of bikes. Over the last few months i had narrowed my choices down to 3. Cross Country, Vaquero, and Street Glide. After further research I eliminated the vaquero and then spent the last month going back and forth before settling on the Street Glide. (this was helped by the local victory dealer informing me that MSRP was the purchase price and only willing to take $250 off)

Now the proud owner of a 2013 Street Glide with a stage 4 kit. Not particularly fond of the stock look I negotiated 20% off parts AND labor on any parts I buy in the first 30 days. Combined with the riders rewards card that's 30% off lol. I immediately gave them a $15,000 cashiers check to customize it.

Getting ready for Bike week.

Will post pics in a few days of the bike in its current condition before taking it to the shop for the customizing.

Congratulations on the new bike!! You should show the Victory dealer the sale that he lost as well.

Did you sell to a private party and then buy? or trade it in? How much did you get for the Nomad?

Cane, I have ridden the same models, and I felt better about the Vaquero. If I were
to buy at this time, it would be the Vaq. I liked height and heft of the bike, and it
had plenty of power for me. I didn't think that the Vaq. and the Street Glide were very
different in looks.

What made you feel the Street Glide was better?

Kind of personal information you've asked for. I don't think it's anyone's business.

I'm looking at what comparable Nomad's to mine are going for. It might even get me interested enough to look some more. Can't track something that has no numbers.

You're kidding, right? I can't drive or ride without seeing several HDs to anything else. It was the same in Iowa, may be worse. For instance, I went on a breakfast ride with PMRG last Friday and out of 25 bikes, I had the only BMW, there were 2 goldwings, 2 victory's, 2 honda standards and may be a yamaha and that was a good day for non-HD brands. If I was an alien that dropped from the sky, I might ask, is there anything else?

If you went to the national nomad rally you might remember my buddy who rode the Honda RC51 (ironing board seat) from Tampa to Maggie Valley. he bought it from me and paid $4500. I threw in the Tour pack I converted to an auxiliary fuel tank like Coach has. I do not think thats a personal question as it shows you data for a set area if you know the prices. It fluctuates sure but it helps if your buying or selling. I am not sure I could have gotten that much in a true private sale though. This guy is the one who helped me tear it down and rebuild it after i bought it. He was willing to pay more because he knew exactly what had been done with it.

Picking the Street glide over the the vaquero was because of resale value first. Second would be in my opinion lack of customizable parts for the bike. Originally I chose the Cross Country because of more bang for the buck. its cheaper then the street glide and it's a 106 compared to a 103 and standard with cruise among other things. The knock is lack of customizable parts as well. I could work around that as I think it holds a resale value better then the Vaquero.

The cashiers check was a bit overboard i think but hey i cant take it with me.

Funny story imo. I negotiate the bike and have a sales girl named Chelsea. Nice girl (who is blessed by god or a very skilled plastic surgeon) I go get a cashiers check for bike and while waiting on paperwork she takes me around to introduce me to the different departments. First department she walks up to the service manager and says "Kieth meet Don, Don meet Kieth" I look at the guy and say "hey Kieth i don't know who the hell Don is, I'm David but its nice to meet you" I then turn to Chelsea and say I dont think I have ever met a more high maintenance woman. I hand you a cashiers check for $25k+ and you cant even remember my name for 10 minutes Poor girl was so embarrassed she couldn't talk to me without sputtering

I will say that the buying experience (at least here) with Harley Davidson is second to none. I personally know the owners of one of the local Kawasaki stores and they don't even come close to the buying experience of the local Harley.

I already went to the victory dealer and showed him the cashiers check for the bike and the cashiers check for the parts. Remember the scene from pretty woman where Julia Roberts says "you work on commission right? Bad move very bad move" I pretty much did the same scene and did it LOUD, VERY LOUD
