Robbery

I stopped at a Chevron station near the office this morning to fill up my Nomad. I paid $3.039 for 89 octane (midgrade) gas. Gas has risen about $.30 per gallon over the past 3 weeks in my area. Regular 87 octane was $2.839, so there's a $.20 differential between regular and midgrade now. What's up with that? It used to only be a dime.

I don't know what the rest of you are paying, I just had to rant a little. There, I feel much better now.

You don't know what robbery is to you buy gas here, its been around 99.9 a litre lately and up to $1.06. That equates to $4.54 a gallon. My fillups are usually about $18.00-$19.00 each.
In July when our new tax (HST) kicks in we can add 12 cents to each litre.

Wow Steve, I'm glad I don't have to drive my 4x4 truck up there in your neck of the woods
I really don't pay any attention to the price of gas here. I need it to ride and I know I am going to pay what ever they charge so I don't get to hyper about it. I'm going to guess it is $3.13 for 93 octaine I run.

Ouch! 2.829 for mid grade (89) in Vegas this morning. Fill up was $12.67. 2.749 for regular (87).

Geez Scott.....I paid $2.76.9 for 93 octane at Sam's yesterday. 87 octane is averaging $2.56 - $2.65 here. The only thing that would explaind the higher price differential between 87 and 89 would be supply and demand. Could be one of the high output refineries is in the middle of a turnaround at the moment and only producing 87. Other than that, it's like you say.....robbery!

Just got back from lunch and noticed gas went up a dime since this morning. Looks like I saved 44 cents by gassing up early. :) :)

Now you can see why I like riding in the states whenever I can. Almost everything is cheaper there compared to up here.

Only 11 to 14 cents (give or take) per gallon is related to the profit by the gas station at the pump... the rest is related to various taxes.... city, county, state, federal, and other such fees paid by the stations.

So... the people who are robbing you the most at the pump is your government.

Also; "summer-blend" is required by law to be sold which IS more expensive to make -- which accounts for some of the increase we always see in the spring.

NOTE: Not all taxes are the same from station to station -- thus the variance you can see from station to station. We have a couple stations on the border of two counties where one county's taxes are higher... which really hurts one verses the other.

Just saying... ;)

Don't forget the distributor Greg.....I don't know what their profit margin is but it's better than the store or station.

Kind of like cigarettes. "Big Tobacco" makes pennies on the dollar while "Big Government" makes the rest all the while telling you how bad "Big Tobacco" is and how bad cigarettes are for you.

True; but still the overwhelming majority of the cost at the pump remains taxes.

Since the taxes are based on a percentage of the cost of fuel the taxes actually go up disproportionately to the rise in the actual fuel cost with regard to dollar-amount. (Funny math... but it is true)
