Christmas dinner

Ann has wanted us to make prime rib for dinner for the last few years but the kids always won out wanting ham. This year Ann is getting prime rib. I'm making a 5 rib roast with garlic mashed potatoes and home made dinner rolls.

Tried out the bread recipie yesterday by making two loaves of bread and they are awesome.

Hopefully this will be a new tradition for Christmas.

Every year we have a New Years Day tradition of eating cabbage for dinner. Lots of great recipies and I always look forward to that meal.

So, what's for dinner at your house?

Christmas dinner

Nothing at my house, but my wife is preparing a ham and some other goodies to take over to my son's house. I think they are preparing turkey over there.

This is the first Christmas in 28 years we haven't had any of our sons in the house on Christmas morning. One is married, one lives in Phoenix and the one that lives with us stayed at his fiance's house last night.

Christmas dinner

We are having the traditional Christmas dinner, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, graving and all the rest. We will be heading north to my wifes sisters house shortly and the festivity's will begin. We like turkey in our family and have it a few times a year.
Although the last three people I spoke to rave about deep fried turkey saying its the best they ever had. I think I'll make a trip to Bass Pro by next thanksgiving and buy a turkey fryer to try it out ourselves.

Had ham and dressing last night. We are going to one of wife's daughters today and not sure what we will have.

Yes CJ, Ann and I are in the same boat. This is the first Christmas ever that we have not had kids here to wake us up. Mixed feelings about that. Nice and quiet though. It definitely marks a new chapter in our lives.

Bud, I think we all get there eventually. You are right, mixed feelings. But it's great to think of Christmas past and relive those great moments. With six kids and twelve grandchildren it still makes for a noise filled day when they all show up.

Al, my oldest daughter and her kids are staying at her place today. Her choice. So my other two daughters will be here with one husband and one hopefull whom I have never met. Is it inappropriate to be cleaning a shotgun on Christmas?

Not at all. You might want to have your collection of hunting knives on display as well.

I'm glad I only raised boys.

No guns or knives involved. Just a REAL FIRM handshake and eye contact. He seems like a nice enough young man. He's into back county snow adventers. I told him that if he takes Kate out and gets her killed in an avalanche he better hope he dies in that same snow pile cause I would kill him. (nervous laugh here, from him of course)

Dinner was awesome. I was concerned that the meat thermometer was in-accurate but that proved not to be the case. The prime rib was perfect.

We went to my oldest sons house. He made Filet Mignon on the grill. Wow, was that good. I could handle this being a tradition

Christmas dinner

We had Turkey dinner twice today, well sort of. We had planned an early dinner, as my daughter's boy friend had to go to work for 4:30. A friend who is recently divorced and a little bit lost was going to stop by, but not able to make it till around 5. What to do, we neither wanted to send the boy Friend off without a Christmas dinner, nor have my friend arrive and find it all over. So we sat down early as planned, ate a little lighter than usual, cleaned everything up and did it all again around 6;00 when my Friend arrived. pass the Tums please! ::)

What self control. And what a generous thing to do.
