Stones tire pressures
Guys, getting the bike out for some serious riding and I want the best handling I can get. What pressures work best in these Stones? Mfr says 32/42 but the front seems a little strange in the corners. Tires only have 1600 miles on them.

I ran about 38-40 in the front and 42 in the rear when I had them.

I did the same as CNC. Then I went to a Cobra on the front and dark side on the back.
Love it. |

ASAP go burn the bricks off the rims and get real tires.... Your almost to the point where that ft tire will howel in the corners, and it sounds like the wheel bearings......
Expect around 8,000 miles of that rear and maybe 13,000 from the front, unless you just get sick of the bricks in the first place. IMO the bricks don't do anything well.

Try 42 psi in both tires, and put some air in the rear shocks as well, about 25-35 psi, on #3 setting. That should help the handling, and take away some of the wallowing.

I assume you are speaking of Bridgestone tires, yes?
I have a Dunlop tire on the front with pressure at 42 and 42 on rear Dunlop. AND, I hear some "howling" sound when I corner, So what kind of tires do I need to stop the noise? metzler? |

Road 80 miles today (85 degrees) with 40/42 and the handling was much better. Also, heard the whistling I've heard these bikes do. Strange!

Mine only "whistles" "howls" when I am cornering. Very strange sounds for sure! You hear this mostly when cornering?

The whistling came from the gas tank. Once I opened the fuel cap it stopped. No other sounds, just the pur of a 1600!

New ones. As the front tire wears and gets cupped they all start to howel in the corners.

The one on the front is new.
Very little miles on it. The rear tire is showing some wear. and will have to be replaced at some point. |

I had an 05 Nomad and was convinced the howling was coming from the front tire so I change it to a Avon Cobra. The howling was still there. Changed the rear tire to an Avon Cobra and the noise was gone.

On a brand new tire the surface is smooth. My understanding is when the bike corners the rubber deflects some what on either side of the grooves that cross the tire at an angle, but not symmetrically. They wear faster on one side of the groove than the other and over time the tire is no longer smooth. If you run your hand over the tire you can feel this, the rubber will be higher on one side of the groove and lower on the other.
