NTSB recall letter showed up today!

I got a letter telling me to stop riding the Vaquero till the recall is fixed. Seems that the NTSB is going after the key switch wiring issue. If you can't ride it how you gonna get it in to be fixed?? Anyway I traded mine off so i'm just going to drop off the letter at the dealer I traded it to.

I took off the tank bra and looked down with a flash light between the switch and tank in the curved part at the front of the tank. You can see the ignition wiring. On mine there is no way it can chafe on the tank. I did get the dealer to order the parts but will wait until the next service. I took the tank off just to be sure and nothing to be seen. There is a connector attached to the side of the frame which the switch wiring goes to and then goes south from there below the tank. I've attached a photo of what to look for. My wiring is really too short to touch the tank but just to be sure, take off the black tank bra and have a look down the front of the tank in the curve.

I have my tank off right now for some other stuff I am doing, but the wires coming down from the ignition switch on my Vaquero were in great shape following careful inspection with no chaffing so here's what I did. I bought some liquid electrical tape and gave all the wires a good heavy coating, a $4.59 Walmart fix. I also use it to insulate wires I have just soldered together. It dries real solid and works like no other. I highly recommend it.

Pete, mine looked exactly like yours. Impossible to chaffe. I took it in after Daytona Beach and got the kit put on. Took about 45 mins. Better to do it now and not have to hear BS from Kawi if I ever need warranty work done.

I would also check the laws in your state about selling a vehicle that has an outstanding recall notice that has not been cleared. You might want to have the dealer clear that for you since you did the work yourself.

I think it's called the NHTSA. I've gotten one or two for my BMW.
