I got board and thought I would make a poll.
I was wondering if I am the only one who insures his bike for 12 months even though I can only ride it for 7 or 8 months a year.

Hey Top Cat polls are always interesting. I do all twelve month and ride most of them. Some times I have to park mine in the late summer when it gets too hot. Riding in a hot wind (feels like I am behind a Jetliner) is not fun for me any more.

I live in the Chicago area so riding all 12 months is a challenge. If there is no snow/ice/salt on the road I will ride, the cold doesn't bother me that much (ok, below 25 the tires feel like rocks and the fun is gone). But I do insure all my bikes for the full year. Not much more a year to insure them.

Generally can't ride all 12 months but still insure it for all 12. Never know in this area what might arise with the weather.

My insurance is for 9 months, lay-up 3 months. I can ride it any time of the year, because I choose the 3 months. If we have a hot spell in January and I want to go for a ride I can. I've been insured thru Dairyland for years.

I was told by one of my past insurance companies that they do not insure for 6 months.
The reason they gave was that even if the bike is sitting in a garage,
the bike could be destroyed by fire or stolen, made sense to me.
So my bike is insured for 12 months.

Insure for 12-months. No big discount with my carrier to do it otherwise. My insurance really isn't that much.

Around here, riding during the winter is tough, if not dangerous.

Even the HA's around here hang-it-up for a few months in the winter. Just drive-by their club-house and you'll see their trucks and cars parked in the lot when the snow is deep and the cold-winds blow!!

It used to be that I could get bike insurance with 6 month liability and 12 month fire and theft. That was a pain in the a*s. If you got a early spring and decided to put the bike on the road say 3 weeks early meant you were putting the the bike away 3 weeks earlier in the fall regardless of the weather. Now it seems pretty standard around here that the policy is 12 months.

I have had insurance on mine since I bought it. I do ride 12 months but not nearly as much from December through March. If it warms up to 50 I will ride.

Year around riding here...albeit sparsely during the winter months. There's something about a crystal clear blue sky 40 degree day when you can reach out and touch the mountains that just screams...."RIDE"... !

In Missouri a home owners policy will not cover a vehicle with a title so you must keep insurance on the vehicle year around ( this goes for 4-wheelers, boats, etc also ) or take the chance of an unprotected bike during storage. We just keep the insurance in force 24-7 365 and pay the monthly rate.

I'm in Michigan. Pretty much can count on March to December for some riding as long as you can put up with it being a mite cold. But I keep it ready because we often get a thaw and a few warm days in February, and some years in January.
