Lefties/Southpaws!!
I'm left handed and whenever I write, I end up with graphite or ink all over the side of my hand (rubs on the paper). I fill out mountains of forms just about every day and I can't find an ink that will dry fast enough to keep it off my hand. It smears the ink and makes me look like I have a skin condition. :) When I'm filling out forms, I try to start at the bottom right but there are a few forms that require me to list things so I have to start at the top left.
For the other southpaws out there, have you found any good remedies? A brand of pen with ultra fast drying ink? Some gadget to keep your hand off the paper? Something else? I have a left handed cousin who writes with her hand above the pen. I write with my hand to the left of the pen. I've tried to copy her way of holding the pen but can't do it. For everyone else: It's a medical fact that the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body and the right side of your brain controls the left side. Therefore, left handed people are the only ones in their right mind. :):):)

Are you using a pen with real ink or a ball point pen? If it's a real pen with real ink you can get left handed nibs which allow your hand to be below what you are writing. They have a slope on the part which writes which is the opposite to a right handed nib.

I had a teacher in 3rd grade force me to write right handed but I am pretty much left handed (or ambi) in all other things. Makes for a pretty weird hand pen configuration that Im guessing is like what you described as hand above the pen, but it works for me.

When I wanted to print neatly without smudging the forms I would fill them out from right to left. Its a bit awkward at first but you do get the hang of it after a bit.

I'm RH but many years ago before AutoCAD when drafting and making revisions my hand would pick up the graphite on the paper and smudge the drawing as I was working on it. I used a clean sheet of paper under my hand the moved it around as I worked my my across the drawing to solve the problem. Another reason to cheer AutoCAD.

I'm left handed. I just keep the pen at 12 o' clock.
The side of my hand is well below where I'm writing.

Nosivad --- I tried using a fountain pen once. Epic fail. I had more ink on the floor (and walls, table, etc) than on the paper.
Loafer --- They don't allow crayons where I "live". They say they can be sharpened. jlreeves --- I write and eat with my left hand. I do everything else with my right. Stan --- That's a possibility although I tend to get in a hurry and write fast (lots of paperwork in a short time). Might be worth a try at home, though. ButtMan --- (I screwed it up once. Now I'm just going to go with it.) I think that's the "hand above the writing" thing I can't get. Might as well write with my feet as messy as it would be. Thanks for the replies, guys.

I write the way us normal people do, right handed but..............
It seems to me if you tilt or slant the top of the form to right at a 45 degree angle you could write without hitting or dragging you hand in the ink. Not sure I explained that to good but if you want I will try to post a pic of what I'm trying to say.

TC --- I understand what you're saying. Makes sense but it's still sort of like writing with your hand above the pen.
CJ --- All I got was something about the devil. Are you saying I'm devilishly handsome?

Like This. The side of your hand isn't near where you are writing.
