Coolant ?

I am replacing my fan switch this week and I am wondering what coolant to use. Can I go to the automotive store and pick up some or do I need a special kind? Can I automotive non-silicate, non-nitrite antifreeze mixed 50:50 with water ?

Yes you can. No silica, no borate etc. Parts Plus aka Sanell has a Turbo Brand out with none of anything in it and the stuff is orange. Read the lables to be sure.

Honda makes a motorcycle specific coolant for like $3 a quart. That's what I'm using.

I will give the local Honda a call and see how much it is. If they hold true to their normal pricing it will be $30.00 a quart. They are the only metric shop left in town. LOL

Heck yea it is!! Anything orange is good in my book. ;)

When I eventually get around to saving enough money, I'm painting my bike and the fairing that I'll purchase orange. But, that's off topic here... Sorry, I can't answer your coolant question. Glad you asked though. It's probably about time to flush my fluids.

Coolant ?

You can use the silicate free. I keep some of the Honda motorcycle coolant on hand.

I had used some Prestone Universal coolant from Walmart but I changed over to the Kawasaki Alumacool and am happier with that. It is about $9/quart but you cut it 50/50 with distilled water so it isn't too bad since the cooling system capacity is only 2.4 quarts.

I bought the Honda coolant this spring and did my radiator. Can't remember what I paid, but I seem to remember that it wasn't too bad a price.
