Santa Fe Trail Trip Report

Trip Report – Santa Fe Trail Ride
The ride was very enjoyable. Lots of historical markers along the ride to tell the story of the of the Trail. At Dodge City the trail splits with the northern route called the “Mountain Route” and the southern route called the “Cimarron Route” - thus making a loop.

http://www.santafetrail.org/#

· Miles ridden - 1,441.
· Averaged 38.4 MPG.
· Only 24 miles on Interstate Highways.
· Three nights and 4 days on the road
· Good roads all the way there and back.
· Little traffic – many times no traffic.
· Coldest temp I rode in was 32.
· Hottest was 84.
· No rain, no threat of rain.
· Some AM wind but no big problem.
· Lots of ma and pop motels along the ride. Most I paid for a room was $42.00.
· On night 2, I stayed in Cimarron, NM. It is also the home of Philmont Boy Scout Ranch (http://www.philmontscoutranch.org/). I enjoyed looking it over.
· I passed two historical forts - Fort Larned and Bent’s Old Fort. Both are operated by the Nat. Park Service and thus closed.
· It was and is harvest time in OK and KS. Corn, beans and Milo look good. Winter wheat is coming up.

I lost my good camera. The following were taken with my phone.

I'm sure you had a good time. Those look like the type of roads Crystal likes to ride.
I hate to hear you lost your camera. I enjoyed the pictures you did get.
